Our 240v outlet has not yet been installed. Thus, for our first charge we used the Level 1 charger that came with the car without incident and it finished charging to 80% this morning. After removing the plug from the car socket, and out of curiosity, I removed the protective cap covering the DC portion of the socket. I had read in the manual that you can "stick it on the suspension" which I found near the hinge bottom as shown in (a) on the attachment. I then re-inserted the protective cap into the socket and started to close the charging socket flap when I noticed the cord of the protective cap needed to be moved out of the way. I thought about how to remedy this and started looking at the protective cap more closely. I noticed a notch on the bottom on the other side from the cord as shown in (b) on the attachment. It appeared that I could bend the cord and insert it into this notch to keep it out of the way when closing the charging socket flap. The cord will be taut when the protective cap is stowed in the socket (c), but it works and the cord tucks nicely into the charging cavity when closing the charging socket flap (d). The attachment shows the specifics. Not sure if this is general knowledge in the VW ID.4 community, but I thought I would share my discovery/tip with everyone.

Good to know. But it’s a shame they overthought this so much - most people seem to just leave it dangle because they can’t figure out how to clip out when DC Fast Charging. For all the effort they put into clips and cords, they could have made a spring loaded pop out like many other brands are doing…

How long did it take to charge with the level 1 charger?

It is a slow boat. Plug it in one day and it will tell you ETA. I recall something like 10% increase every 8 or so hours. I am still installing a lv2 charger but now “in Covid times” we still don’t drive enough - the lv1 is all we need. Plus we have many fast chargers within a 3 mile radius we have that option as well.

Yeah, you just got me curious since I’ve never tested the supplied charger. (Due to the long wait for the car, we actually got a Clipper Creek installed before the car ever arrived.) Suffice to say, it’s slow… Just got it out and tested it, and 3mph is what the screen says. I’m at 59%, with a charge target of 80% and Car Net app reports a nice round 14 hours to finish 😒
