The VW-based Ford SUV will only be sold in Europe.
If that’s the case then yuck. Oh well. On another note, the profile looks a little boxier than the ID.4? I wonder if its efficiency will differ much.I've seen reference to Ford building this themselves, rather than VW building it for them (ala the Volkswagen Routan van that was built by Chrysler). Is this correct?
Pretty difficult to take the platform but not the software. The reveal will be interesting. Ford can make easy charges to the UI, just like what Audi and Skoda have done, but underneath I expect it'll be the MEB software we all know and love.
I must be the unicorn who has no issue with the front end UI. My complaints are with the backend.I would say a substantial number of software related complaints target the UI/Entertainment system. That's something Ford may address in their MEB based vehicle. The backend, as @Nai3t mentioned, would likely not change.
Do you mind if I ask if your profile settings randomly reset? Or do you use the guest profile? Does your memory seat not automatically change to random positions or sometimes go backward when it should move forward? Have you never seen any lighting fault error messages in the gauge cluster, even for a second? Sorry for the series of questions but I’m trying to find out if my ID.4’s lingering problems are the exception, not the rule. And if that’s the case I’m trying to decide if it’s worth going back to the dealer for another round of several weeks of diagnostics and loaner cars…My 2023 UD.4 has had NO software or hardware problems. The only issue is the nut (yours truly) behind the steering. wheel. YMMV.![]()
Sorry, but not quite. The Audi Q4 e-tron might be based on MEB but doesn't use the VW interface or software, but rather it's all Audi. Group brands have been doing this for years. i.e. A3/Q3 share the architecture from the Golf yet here again use Audi's software and interface for navigation etc.I've seen reference to Ford building this themselves, rather than VW building it for them (ala the Volkswagen Routan van that was built by Chrysler). I use "Guest" profile. Every once in awhile it doesn't go all the way to my preferred driving position, but I just hit "1" and it then puts me there. Just an annoyance that I can live with. So far, I've seen NO error messages of any kind. The only other annoyance is memory parking. It takes longer than when I do it, and when backing into the garage it sometimes doesn't go in as far as I'd like, so I adjust accordingly. However, while it's doing it, I unbuckle, put away my sunglasses and remove my phone from the bin. Saves me about 15 seconds.Do you mind if I ask if your profile settings randomly reset? Thanks. It sounds like beyond the lighting errors my problems are the rule. I don’t know this as a fact but I have a theory that the folks who report no problems are the ones who use guest profiles and don’t change any settings beyond the factory defaults. The ID.4’s flaws are well hidden if you never try to change any settings or make adjustments. So I can live with it until something else comes along that’s compelling enough to trade in my ID.4 for - or until VW fixes the software bugs but not holding my breath for that scenario lolI use "Guest" profile. I like the more rugged styling. Looks very handsome, even if the cargo/back seat areas look a bit smaller than the ID.4. Not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me or not. It’s fun to try to spot the VW parts like the interior door handles, the overhead switches and the touch sensitive slider/hazard button but they all look well integrated. The gauge cluster looks very ID.4-like so I wonder if the infotainment is in fact a Ford skinned version of the MEB software

You may be right. I had intended to set my own profile, but after reading about problems others were experiencing, I decided to leave well enough alone. I recommend you remove your profile and revert to "Guest". If you still have the error, then it may well be a software issue/problem. Good luck. 👏Thanks. Thanks. I’ll revert back to Guest and see if that stops the setting resets. I can live with double checking my seat position before I drive and ignoring the lighting error messages - it‘s just not a good feeling knowing that I dropped ~$50k for this. The wildest part of this is the electric powertrain seems to be rock solid. The ID.4‘s weaknesses seem to be basic things the automotive industry figured out decades ago - memory seats, remembering climate control preferences & drive modes - c’mon VW!You may be right. Made and only for European market.
