Glitch in Overhead Lights

When I first enter the car the overhead lights do not come on. But if I leave the car for a short time and enter again they will come on. After the car sits for an hour or so, and I enter they do not not come on again. Can not find any reference that gives me any information about this??

Did you accidentally tap the amber open door icon in the center of the overhead console?

Initially I assumed this was only an indicator, but came to realize it's a touch sensitive selector for cabin illumination upon opening a door.

Nope, did not tap that button. But discovered that if the vehicle is locked the cabin lights come on when opening the door.
