Just signed my order and preliminary delivery in mid-late May i.e. ~ 3.5 months so I’m very pleased.

How could I get such fast delivery I hear you think, well a friendly local dealer is the answer - and some luck. They had a number of GTX’s ordered to have as stock cars and one had not reached the ”locked order stage”. I could thus make any changes I wanted e.g. colour, extras just in the nick of time.

Don’t quote me please with ”a Swedish guy stated that…” as I don’t think dealers would be to happy about getting pressured to do the same ”by-pass” but it’s a route I was naively unaware of and if suggested with a subtle approach it may work.

…as do others with products incl various electronic parts: I ordered solar panels in October with installation ”mid-January at the latest” and I recently got a new tentative (!) date of delivery in early April. They’ve blamed everything from the weather, logistic problems and everything else - apart from their own bad management.

Re ID.4 I assume it’s up in the air but I will call/visit my sales rep (and his boss if needed) tomorrow and demand some clarification.

A big company like VW must have solid contingency plans and notwithstanding the extraordinary challenges now and in recent years it’s somewhat surprising that the problems they and others have are of this magnitude IMHO. But then again, I’m just a layman in these matters and a frustrated single customer.

Got hold of my sales rep at last and they’re, as was expected, not getting any firm delivery dates or info on how VW handles various supply issues. My car with production set to be mid-May has now been postponed to September (!) but as he said, ”it may jump to July all of a sudden and then to another date”.

My dealer told me 23 March that the information they get from VW HQ is very limited and sometimes confusing but it seems there is one general effect on production of all ID.4 cars and one additional effect (read: longer delay) for those who ordered 360 camera and (as I understand) the upgraded headlights. The former due to continuing problems with logistics and the war in Ukraine and the latter due to persistent semiconductor shortage. Could be that the GTX has some additional issues…

Got a reply from my dealer yesterday and the latest news he had was that GTX with e.g. the WD3 package (LED matrix and 360 camera I assume) have a planned production in Q3 of 2022 i.e. July - September. As some parts are produced in Ukraine (in limited numbers for obvious reasons) they're looking for alternative suppliers.
Fingers crossed for a delivery early in Q3...

Lines up with what I had previously, except that my cars planned manufacturing date is early November, so it's more likely Q3 onwards.

Ukraine is an issue for wiring, mainly, not the cameras and other fancy GTX stuff. That means an alternative source to Ukraine doesn't solve that issue either.
Ukraine factories deliver some parts for fancy stuff too, not only "generic" wiring according to my sales rep. Not disputing what you state but that's his info on the subject.
Anyone who knows what (other) issues there are re supplies for e.g. the 360 camera and LED matrix - the good old "semiconductor thing + shipping problems"? ;)

The logistics etc at VW is somewhat of a mystery to me and according to my sales rep he is scratching his head too. Some of the info he gets from the HQ is sometimes odd (even if one considers the various known issues) and changes in tentative date of deliveryi is frequent.

I’ve gone from ”deliver ASAP for god sake” to ”it comes when it comes”

The latest I heard from my dealer (20 April) was that orders with the WD3 option (whatever that means but I assume upgraded sound, lights and HUD etc.) and my car will be produced Q3; thus delivery July - September for a car ordered early February.

They are looking extensively for alternative suppliers for various parts in addition to the current contract factories in Ukraine.

Had a chat with my sales rep who checked his VW information system: my car will be delivered during the week 12-16 Sep, perhaps even earlier and most likely not later :)
Fingers crossed then...

Is it possible to ask if you added a few of the packages that`s now marked with delay? If Norway has the same rate as Sweden then my car ordered now in may could come in December, but I`ve added both the delayed packages, so might not apply to my order.
I should have added a footnote. When I made the decision to order a GTX in early February (thus before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) the waiting list was long too, I think the sales rep said something like 7 months. Main reason then (and still a problem I assume) semiconductor shortages and the pandemic. My nice sales rep (who incidentally emailed his resignation whilst we were talking - am I such a pain in the ****? 😄) kindly offered to buy a GTX they’ve ordered as a showcase car but it was one step from being locked. Thus I could customize freely to my liking (incl. various packages causing an extra delay), get a shortcut to production and the car was locked some days after.

Might as well reply to myself.

Checked back with my dealer about another matter, and was informed that my ID.5 GTX delivery time is now (again) blank.

As they've got no word of any delays, it's more likely that with the new factory open in Germany and Chattanooga US ramping up they might actually be able to deliver sooner than the previously promised December, and have wiped the previous estimates.

As the 'no new GTXs before July' still seems to be true, I said I'll touch back in July in hopes of VW getting their plans sorted.
Yes, my sales rep said that production could possibly be earlier than expected as they've seemed to have made better progress than expected re various issues - fingers crossed for all of us waiting for a GTX ;)
