According to the dealer, we both do - but am going to talkto the in person this Wednesday, and I will not leave until the dealer has gotten a few straight answers from the importer.

This is in Danish, but am I the only one, who reads this as if we get the upgraded sound system included?

The written word does not correlate with the spoken from the importer, as far as I can tell.
I agree with you that what they have written is that we should get the upgraded sound system. However, it is cryptic as to whether it is all RD5 systems that get upgraded to RD2 or there has been an interim period where they were able to sell the RD2 system at a reduced rate - I hope for the former.

I will find out and inform you, post - I have written FDM's legal council, so they can give their formal assessment of the matter.

If I can negotiate an upgrade or a compensation, you should be able to do so as well by referring to this case and the FDM legal assessment.

Unfortunately not, no - it is being built as we speak, and the information from the Danish importer is arrogant to say the least: First, I was informed we would get the upgraded sound system, but now we are told we will not - additionally, we have been told that there will be a model change in week 48 and that we will get neither the Park Assist, the new Light Staging system, nor Software 3.0 but only 2.3 (and more is omitted).

We were told by the importer, through our dealer, that we could "just cancel or current order and make a new one with a 1.5% surcharge".

So, as it stands, we are getting the car a month late and just in time for it to be outdated already.

No compensation for delays, just an outdated car - this what you get for being an early reservation holder.
That sounds very worrying. As for my Swedish dealer they have heard nothing at all about the sound thing. And the mention of speakers on a page on VW.se was indeed a "typo" that has been removed to be published at "a later date".
I would be very appreciative if you could get a list of what the model changes on week 48 will entail. Personally the sound isn't all that important to me, but hearing there is additional features that we will be missing out on has me kinda disappointed. Also getting some info about possible retrofitting would be very appreciated.

This is all I have so far (in Danish, but I am sure you will cope), but I will update my post on Wednesday, if I get something out of the importer.

Spoke with VW Sweden today, apparently this wasn't too bad a news. Both Park Assist and Light Staging System will be available via software update, no word if it will be a free upgrade or something you pay for, also no information on the possibility to upgrade the speaker system.

Thank you for the update - it certainly seems as if VW Sweden both knows more and provides better and clearer information when they do.

I get the sense that my own dealer is doing their best, but that the Danish importer, Semler A/S, is simply not up to the job.

It's a team effort! You did bring it to light, else I'd never known to ask about the systems. Still very interested in hearing what they tell you tomorrow. :)

👊

Will update you all tomorrow, good news or nay - and I will bring your info to their attention and get it confirmed on my side, if possible.

OK, I spoke to my dealer, who also spoke to the importer:

As you said, Monroud, all additional services like Park Assist will be provided OTA - just not right off the bat, as the new software will be tested on a small number of vehicles first (makes sense).

ONLY cars with a production date from week 51 and onwards, and which were ordered before 5 September/when the email went out to the dealers, will get the upgraded sound system - however, all affected vehicles will come with a general 1.5% price increase.

They could not explain why the prices online have not changed to reflect this and why someone, who ordered, say, 4 September would get the upgraded sound system at the same price point as us early reservation holders

Confusion abound at VW AG, it seems.

I have negotiated a deal on an upgraded sound system from the dealer - for now, they do not have an ID.4-specific plug & play system, but they will let me know, when they do.

On a sidenote, I had my third test drive today in city, on small, bendy roads, on gravel - and without the motion-sickness-prone family, so i could let it rip:

It is a quiet, refined beast with excellent acceleration, handling on all surfaces, and the standard sound system is FAR better than on our old Honda Civic from 2010 - that is no surprise, but the level of bass and quality of the sound was a positive surprise, nonetheless.

The UI is seamless, and I noticed zero lag in all menu sections.

Thanks for sharing what you learned and your view on the 'extras'.

I think it is quite provocative to start adding features and extras to a car model before they have even shipped the first cars to customers and now it is a matter of a few weeks difference in production you will actually get extras on the car at no cost. As someone else said...so much for being among the first to order.

The dealer said we should be getting the extra software-based services later via OTA, at least - but yes, they could, at the very least, have added the upgraded sound system to all reservation holders as a compensation for the delays, and not only a group of customers, who happened to coincidentally time their reservations to qualify for the free upgrade.

But let us keep bothering our dealers and importers with this as much as we can - we can only hope they will come to their senses.
