Hi there,

I live in Seattle, near the water and now that it's colder, in the mornings I often find my ID.4 Pro S covered in condensation to the point that the exterior rear view mirrors are completely fogged. The little mirror controls on the driver's side door console include a button to the lower right of the mirror adjustment knob that would seem to suggest that there is a mirror heating function. However, this does not come on when pressed. I've tried it in combination with the rear window defogger and without and nothing happens. This is quite frustrating, as I can complete my entire morning commute (dropping off two kids at separate schools before heading to work) without these mirrors ever becoming usable. Is this function not included in the Pro S trim or do I have a malfunction here or am I just to dumb to use it correctly? Thanks in advance.

Yup.. rotating. I sort of wish that it is enabled with the rear defogger automatically. If I remember correctly, my BMW auto-enables the heated side mirrors with rear defogger.

Actually it’s the same behavior that my Golf has, a case of them carrying over VW tradition where it may not make sense to do so…

Note that you also have to rotate the exterior mirror knob to passenger side to be availed of the lower-upon-reverse orientation to assist with parallel parking viewage. This too is standard VWAG.

On my UK version, there is another switch located between those two that are circled. It's labelled FRONT, which is for the heated front screen. MAX is for maximum demisting with the air vents.
It’s there on our AWD models.

You have to turn the dial to the right to activate the heated mirrors. Not very intuitive. Took me forever to figure it out. You'd think the dial is just for adjusting the position of the mirrors.
I am glad I found this forum--- it has been a journey to learn all the functions of this car. It is not always intuitive.

...I love the ID.4 but this door switch/mirror/window multi-function "thing" is the least practical and intuitive part for me. I do hit the "rear" button accidently (despite I love to press and hold to open all 4 windows, but I miss the haptic feedback on the "rear " button)...

And I did not figure out how to unlock the entire car for a passenger to enter... I just reach out to the passenger door (and making sure I'm buckled up else the car shuts off)... Any suggestions?

I believe it's the little yellow lock 🔒 in the upper right of the mirror joystick. That's a button too that locks /unlocks doors I believe

Agreed… it was annoying on my Golf but at least it’s a physical knob and stays where I put it (sometimes if I need to parallel park a lot, I leave it on R so the mirror always drops in reverse). But it’s odd that they carried that control largely unchanged into the new MEB interface when they rethought almost everything else.

I’ve found that confusing too… sometimes it doesn’t seem to unlock the doors, instead locking them.

At my 60-day check back, where I provided my delivery-requested written feedback, this human interface shortfall area was a particular point of my input. It is imho one of those things that seems good to a design engineer on paper but doesn't really work that well in day-to-day customer driving.
