Hi all,

I’ve noticed that if I get into the ID4 without a key in my pocket and navigate to “Vehicle,” each subsystem has lots of interesting settings. Things like a headlight distance slider, mirror auto-darken, and advanced central locking settings. If I try to select any of those settings, I get an “ignition must be on” error. But if I grab the key and start the ignition, all of those options disappear and I’m left with just a couple of settings per subsystem. What gives? Just crummy UI software?

Yes, I can relate to this. I spent like 5 mins trying to understand why I couldn't adjust my side mirrors before driving off from the dealership when I first pick it up. Turns out that the car needs to be in "Ready" mode from the instrument cluster on doing so.

Perhaps you can find some of these options again from the Vehicle tile from the home screen? There should be an option on central locking. My car was set as only to unlock the driver side so I change it to unlock all doors.

I also found a "hidden" feature about easy open for the trunk. If enable it should allow you to open the trunk by tripping a sensor at the middle back of the bumper. Try this once or twice but no luck yet.

I have also seen this, the one that intrigues me is auto hold, which sounds like a one peddle driving setting. If so, I hope they turn it on in a future update.

Auto-hold is not one-peddle driving. It’s the ability of the car not to creep up when you take the foot off the brake pedal. It’s a nice feature to have when you are sitting at a red light. It allows you to bring the car to a complete stop with the brake pedal and then take your foot off the brake pedal, while the car remains in place (with electronic parking brake engaged) until you push the accelerator pedal.

Too bad Auto-hold is really badly implemented. It's almost impossible to parallel park in tight spots with it enabled, as very small movements both back and forward will make auto-hold trigger and the car abruptly stops. I haven't had it enabled since I got the car 5 months ago. Can't be bothered to turn it on and off all the time.

I find auto-hold brilliant. It's perfect, especially if you need to stop on any incline. I had it on my previous three VW Tiguans. Mine still allows small and slow movements and only activates when you push firmly on the brake pedal. You also know when it's activated, as it's displayed on the steering wheel screen.

My 2019 Arteon has the auto-hold feature as well. As others have mentioned, it's a modern VW thing. Isn't as necessary on a torque converter transmission but would undoubtedly be beneficial on a car with a DSG transmission, and I'm guessing they thought it would be beneficial to ID cars as well.

I've seen many reviewers bring up things they perceive as "issues" or "software short-comings" that are really features or options that are seen on many VWs. Undoubtedly VW did this to make owners of prior VWs feel comfortable in the car.

Actually I just noticed this issue that OP has mentioned. When car is off, I see the option for auto hold turn off, but I can't enable it. When I turn on the car, that option along with others disappears. I want to enable auto hold but looks like I can't due to the options only shown when car is on? Anyone else able to see more options? Perhaps only for EU but not for US?

No they are working European options shut off on American cars. Why, they will not say. It's the same as lowering all four windows from key faub but I'm America only you can't put them up. In the German code you can easily see they disabled that line of code. VW will not say why. Unlike Musk they don't talk to us who but their cars.

You have to have the key FOB with you for the foot thing to open the trunk
