Home chargers in upstate New York?

1083 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Froggy
Does anybody have any experience with (or recommendations for) installing a level 2 home charger in upstate NY? Are there state incentives or rebates? Are some chargers better than others? Has anybody had luck installing a charger themselves? I'm interested in the ElectrifyHome level 2 charger, and am just curious to hear from others who have experience with these issues.

I’m in Rochester and bought the Grizzl-e Classic. I’ve had it for about two weeks and I haven’t had an issue with it. Seems to be really robust and ready to take on the cold weather without a problem. It’s made in Canada and meant for extreme cold temps.

That looks like a good one, thanks for the rec! Do you know about state incentives for these? And did you have it installed or do it yourself?
I don’t believe NYS has any rebates, but there’s a 30% federal credit that you file with your taxes along with the vehicle purchase. I installed it myself only because the wiring existed for generator use. If you don’t have electrical experience, I would highly recommend having a pro install everything.

Not in NY but an electrician was out here an hour ago giving me a price. I am having him install a Clippercreek but if I lived in an igloo subdivision I would go with the GrizzlE. It is about as tough but comes with Canadian rated cables. Inside a heated garage I guess it wouldn’t matter.
I'm not in NY, but also have a Grizzl-E Classic. Great charger - well made at an attractive price. Just a matter of whether you want a "smart" charger or not with a remote app for your phone. Those cost a lot more.

Yep, no need to get a charger that’s smarter than me . I don’t want to be absorbed by the Borg.
