How many pre-orders in the US?

Hi everyone! I’m new to the forum, and new to the ID.4 pre orders. I somehow missed the announcement in the fall, probably because I was in a pandemic/Groundhog Day haze and missed it. I just put my order in a couple weeks ago, and I’m wondering if there’s any information on how many pre-orders there are. I know I’m pretty low on the totem pole at this point, but I’m hoping once they ramp up production and shipping to the U.S. it will progress quickly.

I’ve seen on here that many of you that made early reservations have locked in your orders, so it looks like the process is starting. I’d appreciate any insight into the time frame from those of you that have followed things from the beginning. Thanks!

I don't have any updates on my AWD for now. Enjoying eTron more and more though. I think I've lost me way into a wrong car class.
If I could afford an e-tron I wouldn't be on an ID.4 forum :)

enjoy!

Sadly, VW has not released any real info or sent early reservation holders any updates on when we might expect to see the cars. The word from dealers for several months has been that 1st editions should come out in March, and other versions after that.
... which would point to end of the year for AWD versions ...

Did you order 1st (FE), or Pro?

As far as we know, 1st are still on track for delivery by the end of Q1 (end of March). Before all the reports of another possible delay, people were saying starting around March 8. Unofficial rumor/reports indicate two possible delays, software issues, and chip shortages. We do not know yet if either will delay U.S. 1st deliveries past Q1. FE orders were between 2,000 and 2,700 first round (reports varied), and for sure there were cancelations since then. Wild guesses for the total after the second offering of FE are well under 5,000. (4,000+ fit on one VW transport ship)

Pro were scheduled for after Q1, and AWD after that, was summer/fall.

Even with the second chance 1st orders, most of us think the total number of U.S. FE is less than can fit on one VW car transport ship, so there may be no difference between having ordered during the first round 9/23/20, or in the more recent second round.

Even though I made a strong case for the extra one gets for another 25% cost, my wife says to pass on the now-two year-old e-Tron that uses a repurposed ICE platform. She says go for the EV-dedicated ID.4, or if the value /price calculation works out, the Q4 eTron. It's no surprise that she is the rational and level-headed one in the family.

LOL, I get the same feedback pretty much. I could likely justify 2019 used eTron but a new one is just way too expensive for what we get. Sadly, no news on Q4 :(
@mmmzon,

Hopefully with the e-tron GT debut on Feb 9th there will be more info on when the production Q4 will debut shortly after that.

When is the smaller Audi going to be available? If not too long, I just might switch out of the VW AWD reservation.
I am told Q3 2021 preorders on Q4 in US, with delivery early in 2022, at least first models. The preorder website is apparently already live in Italy.

Thanks, I'll take the AWD VW as it will be earlier (we hope). The idea here is to lease it for three years, then turn it in for a VW Buzz if we like what we see when they arrive. We have 34 solar panels on our roof, and haven't paid San Diego Graft and Extortion for power since Feb. 2009. It will be great to put our extra energy to use in the car.

I'm maxed out at 9.89kW system and using it fully now with EV at home. It's actually interesting to see that it's effectively free charging for the car

I early February VW stated they had 17,000 pre-orders worldwide. They planned to produce 100,000 ID.4 for 2021 with 2/3 going to Europe, 1/6 to China and 1/6 to North America (16,666 ID.4 for FY 2021). No information on how the 17,000 pre-orders are divided globally.

@Keowee ,

That really isn't that many pre-orders. Considering not everyone is going to convert their order to purchased ID.4 and some may have multiple orders.

I wonder if there are actually going to be ID.4 on dealers lots later this year. That is potentially one way on saving money at a dealer.
