I do need to read through my manual but is there an easy way to keep the car going when getting out of the seat? So frustrating when I hop out of the car for 2 seconds and it disconnects Android Auto and I have to wait 30 seconds for it to reconnect. They need a setting that maybe it shuts off after 60 seconds or when you hit the lock button. I've tried hitting the off/on button on the side but it doesn't seem to do anything.. still instantly shuts off when I get up out of the seat.

i understand your frustration - if i wiggle my butt the radio turns on and off.
you can try to put the seat belt in the lock and see if that works for you - if it does you can buy the seat belt plug on amazon. sorry awkward but VW leaves us no choice.

In my [more slippery leather seat] TT I would latch my seatbelt and then assure I was moved well back in the seat. But as we know movement in the seat of the ID.4 can be more problematic so I have reversed my habit pattern. Fortunately the higher fabric-friction of the V-Tex leatherette keeps me in place quite well.

This is something that needs to be addressed - Hopefully they can do it with one of the software updates. If they don't get started with them soon, there may be 50 small things that need addressing ASAP with the first one . . . . and we are gonna need one every 10 or 12 weeks like they promised just to get all the little nagging things squared away

You can either rebuckle your seatbelt behind you or lift your butt off the seat before opening the door. Either will trick the car into keeping everything on.
It's obnoxious.
Start/stop button to keep things on seems like an obvious function, the Germans are really loosing their touch here.

With my wife staying belted in to the car, I exited and everything shut off - Radio & AC. I reached in, buckled my safety belt on the empty drivers seat and then pressed hard on the center of the drivers seat and everything came back on. I closed the door and she had AC & radio the whole time I was gone

These 'work arounds' are a pain - The car should know that if someone is staying in the car, they probably would like climate control, a radio & the ability to roll down a window . . . .

Try this to keep you ID.4 on!! Before you get out of the drivers seat (car still on) Take the drivers seat belt out of latch…..Pull the passenger belt and latch it where the drivers belt would go Car remains on. When your done with passenger belt hook it on the passenger arm rest and you ready for the next time….

I ordered these from amazon to put in the seat belt before getting out of the seat and when I get out of the car, everything stays on while I get out to get the mail or run into a store etc.
You can take the key and lock the doors and everything stays running for your passengers.

Brilliant, I already had a small seatbelt extender, and is now in my car. Just tried it, perfect.

Safety at night if I get out of the car and lights can stay on.

Does the key need to stay in the car too or can you take it and the car will just report the key is missing and keep running?

I know this is an old thread, but I’ll ask anyway: does the passenger buckle method mentioned above bypass the 30 minutes auto-switch off limit?

(Edit: it just dawned on me that I can just go and test this for myself! Doh’! I’ll post back my findings)

Test done and no joy. After 30 minutes the car shuts down again.

Put a weight on the seat and buckle it, it stays on. See:

Put the passenger seat belt in the drivers side and pop the frunk before you get out?

I'm gonna try this next time I go into a restaurant to keep the AC on for my pup

I just reach over and get passenger seat belt and slip it in my slot and everything stays on!
