All, I am sharing this with you, and hope you will find this as amusing as we did - eventually. Seriously, we drove for the Ohio border pretty quickly. I am linking to the playlist I created on my youtube channel - the first video, was just my daughter and I having some fun (we were driving from NYC back to Chicago, this took place in DuBois, PA). Well, she came back before we left, and so I very nicely asked if she would mind, given the 2500 spaces available, not parking in two of the four spaces available for high speed charging - it did not go well !!!!
There is a ton of content and data coming from the SFO-NYC roadtrip over the next weeks.

I'm thinking the mobile phone is in selfie mode and has flipped the image.

I don't understand the need to purposefully affect other people by such blocking. But then I don't understand a lot about why people are doing the things they are doing.

Reminds me of "Road House", Patrick Swayze says "Just be nice"...I think that's a simple motto we could all use these days.

Not faulting our contributor's reaction. Very hard to maintain civility when confronted with such negative energy, even if he started by trying to "just be nice".

She messed with the wrong EV'r!! Nice to have a comedian's quick wit, ease of articulation, and ability to sarcastically divert any "heckler" without them really knowing it (but fun if they do as well). Your bright as a button intellect is a plus, as is the very British accent which still yields an air of authority in the colonies. ;)
I'll never understand inconsiderate and thought-less people. Sorry you had to encounter a fellow American at our worst. 😣

Honestly, assuming the details as reported are actually accurate since we saw nothing between a parked car and the drive away, i'm not impressed. It's incumbent on us early adopters to not act like big jerks, not taunt people for doing something they've probably not considered is wrong in the first place.

Fighting with someone like that is just punching down. Punching down is never funny.

If I might offer a contrary opinion here... My feeling is that the real failure is by Electrify America (and/or Walmart). As far as I can tell, the parking/charging spaces in question are not marked as charging-only spaces in any way. No paint, no signage. The most recent photo on PlugShare shows very well-worn "EV Charging Only" paint faintly visible in one space, but no markings at all on the rest of the spaces.

Ultimately, it doesn't much matter if you're right. "I've come from California in my new electric car to tell you you've parked wrong at your hometown Walmart" isn't going to change many minds, no matter how charmingly you say it.

Unfortunately most states don’t have any penalty yet for parking in a charging space. Most stations I’ve been to it would be one of the worst spots to park but it will become more of an issue as more EVs are sold. Here is a map of states that do have penalties. Most are a fine, some can tow. Surprising that ND has penalties as it has very few stations. It is only a $50 fine there though.

"The Dog in the Manger" is my favorite Aesop's fable

Perhaps not applicable if she truly parked in an EV charging location by mistake (didn't notice the big pillar with hoses?). But it doesn't appear so in this case. As the OP cited there were a vast number of unoccupied parking spots. It appears to me that she (regularly?) parked there to be away from other vehicles. Doesn't make it right and she immediately got combative trying to defend her actions?
In a way no different than parking in a handicapped spot if not so entitled. Folks do that too, but it also doesn't make it right.
Would someone park in a gasoline/diesel bay if not refueling?

Why couldn't she "just be nice?" 🤷‍♂️

If there was still a viable charger for my use I would have just shook my head and not engaged her. But that's me and many years now of being desensitized by those with poor manners. 😔

So why do they ice? If it were just about being a jerk, they'd be taking handicapped spaces improperly too.
It's about being a jerk to people who care about the environment, because they're the enemy. It's really that simple. Efficiency is unamerican. Not wanting millions to become displaced sending the world into chaos makes you a snowflake.

Nobody’s bothered me at charging locations. In fact mostly nice and inquisitive.
It probably doesn’t hurt having a Marine Veteran license plate ("don't mess with this ol' guy, he just might be crazier than I am"). 😉

Please pardon me not replying earlier. This lady made it very clear that she knew exactly where she was parking. I park here all the time and I don't see anyone charging. Those were her exact words. The chargers are not even convenient for access to the front door of the supermarket. This was an overtly personal choice.

I approached her in a spirit of genuine "Please don't park here, We need these spaces" I was respectful at all times. Right up until she told me as I was not from around there I was less than an opinion to be considered. No, it was not an amazing example of electric vehicle ambassadorship. And as for punching down, no, it's not appropriate for me belittle the interlectually inferior, or disadvantaged. However, I am not someone you can bully. Was funny though.

I didn't watch your video but got into a similar situation telling somebody not to park in (very well signed) EV charging spots in San Francisco.

Of course they got confrontational which is common when people know they are in the wrong but don't want to admit it.

It felt like another blow in the culture wars but I also won't stop calling out low level unethical behavior.
