My first edition ID4 ( picked up @ May ) is in dealer for almost a month for first time service and passenger air bag error, any one has similar error? Dealer gave me a fuel Jetta loaner, and I tried to ask dealer to cover the fuel cost or exchanged to another electric car, dealer said their hands are tight and I need to call VW warranty line which I called many times it's impossible to get hold of anyone ( the service voice said waiting time is more than one hour...)? My VW dealers claims they are doing everything they can to repair it but parts are in critical backorder, With crazy shortage of auto parts and cars in the market, it looks I won't be able to get my ID4 any time soon, but I am still paying my monthly ID4 payment, Any suggestion, or just eat it?

Was it a one time light that went off next time you ran the car? There are lots of software gremlins in the car that we are hoping will be cleared with the upcoming 2.3 update. Mine flashed all the dash lights (including airbag) one time and then they didn’t show again, I mentioned it at my 5k service and they didn’t see any fault codes in the system. I now have 13,500 miles on my ID.

Thanks for sharing yours. My air bag error was showing - attached picture once a while in the beginning then it showed almost every time car started. I believe it's was actual air bag problem not just the computer glitch why dealer needs to get the parts. The dealer service rep told me that ID4 was brand new to them and they have only one certified technician for ID4, and his training virtual one. So be aware most of VW dealer will run into the similar problem like mine, it will take them a while to repair any. My questions, was my request for reimbursement for fuel or exchanged with another equivalent Electric care unreasonable to ask? Any one knows a way to submit the fuel reimburse or ask VW to get credit for not able to drive it?

Be Aware, Call VW customer care line is long waiting time, 2 hours minimum to talk to some one ( I gave up at 1 and half hrs ), scheduled call back in one week at least . After few attempts, finally my dealer agreed to cover my fuel cost of driving gasoline loaner, that makes me feel better for now. But still no words when will my air bag error to get repaired, still waiting for the parts...

The error can already appear if you incorrectly pull the yellow 20A fuse under the dash. Though it then can be cleared simply by the dealer, by wiping the error status in the airbag module.

Am sure this is not the case for you, but I’ve seen plenty of people yanking all kinds of fuses out and I just wanted to point out that this permanent error can be a side effect of that.

I was also experiencing an airbag error on my Pro S purchased in May. Happened once randomly back in July, but cleared itself and seemed to behave normally after that. At the end of August it started coming on, clearing and then coming on again repeatedly every couple of minutes when I drove. Immediately made an appointment and took it in to my dealership.
There I was told it is an issue with the passive occupant detection system mat under the passenger seat and asked if I spilled anything. I told them there haven’t been any spills in my shiny new car and was told they are ordering the parts and would call me soon to schedule the repair.
That was nearly a month ago and now when I ask I am told the part is on back order. In the meantime I have been driving my family around in a beautiful car that doesn’t have working airbags. Any chance your part came in and you are safely back on the road?

Hi Nichole, your air bag problem exactly like mine, according to dealer it's the sensor pad under passenger seat that having the problem. I am surprised the dealer let you still drive the car, it's a serious safety issue unless you signed any released liability form. Dealer could not give me another ID4 to drive so I have been driving a Jetta loaner since August 4. I am actually contacting with dealer and VW customer care for reimbursement while paying fuel for the loaner and my monthly payment for not being able to drive ID4. Every week dealer still has no idea when the part will arrive, it's going to be a long wait. You should not drive the care and raise the airbag safety issue to your dealer.

In what I thought was a Black Friday miracle, I got a call last Friday that the final part came in and the dealership wanted to schedule time for the repair. I went in Tuesday morning for what I was told would only take a couple hours. After sitting there for 6 hours I was finally offered a loaner car and was told they were on the phone with Volkswagen because they were having trouble re programming everything after the new parts were installed. I was told I should have a call in the morning to pick it up. My car has been there all day today too and when I called to ask where things were I was told they were waiting to hear back from Volkswagen. Any luck with yours?

Mine is in shop for passenger airbag error since Nov 11th (see other airbag light thread). Part arrived this morning after being on backorder from Germany. They're bringing in vw engineer for installation supervision some time this week. Opened ticket with VW quickly and easily using customer care chat, asking for loaner fuel reimbursement only at this time assuming repair is made in next week

Id4 is new learning to dealer, expecting long wait or days to get fix. It took my dealer almost a week. I finally got my ID4, driving for 2 months the passenger air bag error pops again when adjust the seat, so going to bring it back again.

Yikes, now I know what to look out for. The local dealership called me this morning and told me they are waiting to hear back from VW corporate about how to program the module that they just installed. They tell me this is the first time this repair has been done in the United States. Maybe that means they are doing mine correctly and won’t be visiting them again in a couple months.
I get that this is a new car with a steep learning curve for their repair techs, at this point I am just frustrated with the poor expectations set by the dealership. Moving forward I am just going to expect every repair is going to take a long time.

Unfortunately it's the fact the first Gen of new car is always buggy, I drove a lot n plan to keep the car longer so I bought extended warranty to be on the safe side.

I am now experiencing the same issues with the air bag light. Where you able to be reimbursed for the fuel for the loaner or for your VW payment credit?
