ID.4 Build Date and VIN range

Hello everyone, I am trying to determine if my car is an early 1st Edition or toward the end of production. My VIN ends with 203xx and build date is February 2021. Does anyone know if it is an early or late 1st Edition? Thanks in advance.

The early customer deliveries (not demo units) had February 2021 build dates. My First Edition has 008XXX VIN with a February 2021 build. At that time, the Zwickau factory was building approximately 800 vehicles per day with deliveries to Europe and the US. The factory should have ramped to approximately 1,400 vehicles per day by now.

Mine is Feb '21 and has a 007XXX VIN. Does that number relate to the order they came off the line?

Yes, so at 800 cars per day a 7000 VIN should be around 10th of February and 20000 should be around 25th of February. Are all 1st Editions built in February or it extended to March?

Why is everyone so obsessed with masking their VIN? All I have to do is walk up to your FE and snap a picture through your windshield 🤷‍♂️.
My VIN ends with 007297 and 02/21. My dealership knows the guy at the Baltimore port of entry. He called and found out my FE was 105 of the first 500 into Baltimore. So do I get a special popsicle 🤣?
My dealership is maybe 20 miles from the port of entry. So my $1195 delivery charge subsidized all you west coasters, you're welcome 😉.

800 cars was the total capacity of Zwickau at the start of US production. That volume would have included ID.3 production at that time. The 1,400 capacity now would include ID.3, ID.4 and Audi e-tron. 1st Editions were produced in two, if not more, batches.

I used to feel that way about masking license plates. In public view, right? Then, being purposely vague here, had to identify somebody because of online content relating to my place is work, found a license plate in some of their unrelated content, and police were able to easily identify the person and have a chat.

I came to the realization that less is better, because... who knows?

That said, vin 8200, 1st Edition, February 2021 like the rest.

I respect your choice for privacy. I still wear my mask at indoor public places.

My takeaway was that even though I'm not planning to flagrantly break a law that, frankly, was a bit serious, I realized how easy it was to track somebody down with the most minimal effort. Nothing more than that.

Back on topic, @agzand I've been super curious about the date & VIN range of the 1sts and am surprised to see how compacted their production was. Maybe you can edit the title of this topic to say "US 1st Edition VINs lower than 7000 or higher than 20000?" and update it whenever we have a new high or low. There were some long-haulers in the Lantern Rouge thead and now I'm wondering if their VINs were outliers, or part of the mix.

Thanks for the info, looks like pretty much all US 1st Editions were built in February 2021 with VIN ranging from about 7000 to 24000. VW sold about 6000 iD4s in the US in the first half of 2021 (presumably mostly 1st Edition). So maybe a 1/3 or quarter of that VIN range ended up being US 1st Editions.

Let's keep this open to all trims, maybe we can collect more useful data.

I thought I read somewhere that they only made 2,000 FE in the US…

I have yet to see a 1st Edition that was not built in February 2021. I was somehow worried about buying an early build car, but then I thought the drivetrain has been in production in iD3 for more than a year already. So to some extent it is not really a brand new car.

I assume the European market 1st Editions were produced before North American variants? If so, that was their production line warm up / stretching exercise. 😉
