When the ID.4 Pro AWD arrives at my dealer, do I just pay for MSRP + destination charge and registration fees. Anything else I need to pay. Should be straight forward right?
I have never pre-order a car before.

Thanks

Yes. For the ID.4 in particular VW of America has instructed dealers to not play any dealer games for cars which were pre-ordered. If they accept the car into inventory, however, they can play whatever games they want.

Plus sales tax which is high in some areas, and doc fees which vary by area (and are more than just registration.) Ask your dealer before it arrives what the fees are.

The car I ordered directly had no extras but I canceled that order when the same model in the same color combination came into a dealership. The difference was the All Weather Floor Mats, Trunk Liner, First Aid Kit and Roadside Fixit Kit and finally, a Cargo Net. All that added a few hundred more to the MSRP.

In the end, I paid for the included extras because some of it I would have added later anyway. Beyond that, however, I did not pay anything more than what the delivery fee and taxes came to. They tried, like all dealerships, to get me to include and extended warranty but they backed off when I declined. All in all, it was one of the most pleasant buying experiences I have ever had.

I put my $100 down for an AWD this weekend. If you look at the Dealer Shenanigans thread, you will see that most people have had a decent experience. The dealer fees and price can be changed by the dealer, but gouging seems to be rare. On the website it states "dealer sets actual price" in the fine print. I was a little paranoid about the dealer nearest me for no substantial reason and chose a dealer mentioned positively by a few people in the Dealer Shenanigans thread. I probably would have been perfectly fine supporting the dealer a few miles from my house and could have called, but I chose the safer route.

Congratulations. Most people who preorder don’t have the dealer trying to bump up the price. You might get in touch with the salesman and tell that you don’t want any dealer add on items without prior approval.

What did the AWD model run?
