I guess all of us early adopters are affected if going by build dates. I wouldn't count on the lack of a D in the VIN, the parts and software were all the same.
Agreed, I think positions 4-6 aren't important, just the trailing 5 digits.

That is not true, I was reading the forum the other night and there were at least 10 people having the exact same issue addressed in this recall, and FYI none of them felt they had slightest control of the car when they lost power. They were scared shitless actually.

It is unfortunate that they have been investigating this issue for 1.5 years and just now starting a recall. If you read the posts from people who actually had this issue and how scary it was, this should have been a recall on day one. This just shows VW's poor judgement and poor decision making process.
Volkswagen can only act on data it has. It can't issue a recall based on anecdotes on a forum. I'm not going to deny that people have had a catastrophic fault with their car where they lost propulsion. What am saying is that VW has not reported of any cases where they know this has happened for a fact. Their supplier found an issue with the software, and VW has been investigating it, and based on that thorough investigation they've determined it was appropriate to issue a recall.

If automakers issued a recall for every single fault someone says they encountered no one would actually be driving their cars, they would just be stuck on dealer lots.

Also, I've been driving a car where I lost all propulsion power. But I didn't die, nor get into a crash. I was able to calmly get off the roadway and fix the problem. Now people have been made aware this COULD happen, so they need to act accordingly. For some, that may mean they shouldn't drive their car until there is a remedy.

Right now, this recall repair is not yet available
Currently your dealer does not have the recall remedy available to perform the recall work. Volkswagen is working to make the recall repair available as quickly as possible. By March 31st, 2023, you will receive the official recall notification letter via first class mail. This recall notification letter will provide information of the next steps you can take to obtain this software update.

Message came from the new SVP, Customer Experience & Brand Marketing. There is a big change afoot in customer engagement.

Coincidentally, in November, I was interviewed by their PR agency for a planned social media campaign. Their agency contact has ghosted me since.

New PR agency has signed on:

Here is that phrase again. Why are we so quick in this country to threaten the need for a lawyer every time there is a bump in the road? Nobody wins these things except the lawyers. I do remember getting a check for one of these actions years ago for $0.12 USD. Such a deal.

Notice I won't even type the 3 word phrase. Ridiculous.
I’m not concerned about the dollar amount if that would invoke VW and EA to get software fixed and in this case lawyers may be the fixers.

Well, we'll see what the day brings but right now, I gotta say that “It's not exactly Mai Tai's and Yahtzee” out here for me; I still have NEVER received any e-mail from VW corporate that wasn't directly associated with a Customer Care case.

What error message is it supposed to display? I didn't see that anywhere.

I saw the recall this afternoon and just joined this forum for the first time to say this might have happened me in January and February of 2021. Once leaving the car wash my car refused to accelerate, I pulled into the next parking lot and turned it off and on a bunch of times until finally it started working again. Once leaving my driveway, same thing. And then a few days later it just completely bricked and would not start. After nearly 48 hours the dealer walked us through some physical reset in order to get it in for service. It seemed to be flashing every error message available each of those times; an exclamation mark thing, and all sorts of alerts about systems not being available such as "rear traffic alert is currently not available" and "travel assist is currently not available". The dealer didn't know how to fix it and ended up having someone from Germany walk them through it.

Maybe, maybe not. But based on this recall and my past experience this is the last Volkswagen I will own! Way too glitchy to put my kids' lives in danger!

Position 4 is significant:
View attachment 21217

Per DOT decoder, "U" is AWD.

Pardon my brevity – digits 4, 5 and 6 not of meaningful importance to this recall. Those digits are various trim options, and the only one potentially of any significance could have been RWD vs. AWD, and we've heard nothing to indicate either of those groups aren't affected by this.

What we haven't heard is what is the European variant is this, or if theirs aren't affected, was it addressed in 2.3 or higher? If it was addressed by an update campaign they've already completed, why wasn't this same updated BMS software already baked in to in the US 3.1 update?

Interesting how the dumster fire of our 2021 ID4's continues to burn. Can we simply acknowledge that patience is THE toughest virtue? Yep. I can.

Sadly, there's a sort of Stoklholm syndrome among many of the fanboy posters here that seems to result in their desire to bring a can of lighter fluid to a fire.... even the fire that is apparently a common occurence on first year experience with VW's new models (according to my dealer's VW repair crews). No matter this site's preference to blame the poster rather than the company, this is a flawed new model strategy and I hope VW changes it's ways, but I doubt that will happen because I fear they're trying to manage too many brands and too many models to root out a deeply ingrained practice. Are the ID4's problems uniquely uncharacteristic to VW's 1st year runs? Again.... according to my dealer's crew....apparently not, but a common problem with ALL VW's 1st year runs. Those of us who've given the brand a try and bought a 2021 ID4? I can't speak for others, but I should have known. My bad.

Will I give VW another try? Surely not on any new model's 1st year. Not again. Am I fair to extent that to ALL VVW brands and all their cars? No. But it is my privilege.... just as has been VW's privilege to pretend to address the issues, and not exercise goodwill and transparency. And it's my money so why not? If the behavior changes, then I might have to change my unfair response and reconsider. But I'd have to ascertain whether Audi has had the same record or not.... or shown itself willing to try. For now, and until then, I'll go buy a replacement that's another brand's 2nd or 3rd year model and completely outside the VW family of OEM's.

To paraphrase one of the sequel's to the Hitchhiker's Guide, "Good luck and thanks for all the fish!"

I assume the worst and they're implying that the binnacle lights up like a Christmas tree while the vehicle simultaneously loses power.

I'm surprised they didn't write, "if your vehicle loses propulsion, immediately pull over."

Sorry this happened to you. I can imagine it's distressing, and would test my confidence in this car. Thankfully it's not a common report, but those who have experienced it seem to have had it occur more than once.
