Who is your dealer? Kirkland and Campbell are pretty clear on March for launch day reservations.
ID4 FE arriving at dealerships starting March 10th

I have a blue 1st edition reservation that I placed on the first day it was revealed. I'm in the Seattle, WA area.
My reservation is through Campbell VW. The message I received was (modifying the final numbers of the VIN)
"
Great news….we now have a VIN # to your new ID4!. The VIN # is as follows:
WVGDMPE25MP012345
It is built and currently en route from Germany. I don’t have an official ETA yet but it looks like the middle of April. As we receive updates we will forward them.

For what it is worth, someone posted the ID4 manual on the UK site.
My reaervation was originally Kirkland, but I switched about two weeks ago. Maybe they were pooling by dealer volume. Kirkland had about 50 total reservations by mid-October.
Good idea. Unfortunately, when I put my VIN in to Volkswagen Online Owner's Manuals | Official VW Digital Resources I get a message that "Looks like we’ve hit a snag! Check to see if your VIN is correct and try again. If you've confirmed your VIN and are still experiencing issues, please contact Customer Care."
Some sales people will say whatever they think you want to hear. Others (a minority, I'd guess) are so worried about a disappointed buyer that they err on the side of pessimism. The EV specialist at my dealer called me and said my FE would be there by mid-April. I quizzed him further and he acknowledged that he got the same report that we have heard from others -- FE deliveries starting in mid-March and extending through April. He also said I was the first customer to reserve an FE, so mine would be the first delivered to that dealer. The dealer is in Oregon, so I would lean toward the optimistic side of the delivery range. But the EV specialist leaned the opposite way, and he admitted it.
I would venture a guess that until they have a VIN allocated, that anything they tell you involves a lot of guesswork.
As I was typing this, my own specialist called. No VIN. She did say that no one state gets priority. So the statement that ZEV gets first deliveries is false.

Spoke with my VW dealer in Dover, DE this morning, they said they expect to get a demo around the end of March. I also asked about upgrading my order to the ID.4 Pro S instead of the base model, and she said I would need to cancel my existing order and reserve the new configuration, putting me at the back of the line. Ugh.
Your dealer is the same as mine.
If you haven't paid your $400, I would call VW Customer Care to see if you could get it changed. I would be tempted to call Customer Care anyway and see what they had to say.
I originally reserved in mid-October, and paid my $400 in late January. I will try the chat feature on the portal to see if I can make the upgrade as someone here on the forum suggested, but I'm not holding my breath. The rep at the dealer checked with her VW ID.4 contact, and that's when she told me that I would need to cancel/re-order.
Which dealer? I'm near Salem and I sent them an email and the reply says their demo unit will be mid summer. Didn't know anything else. (Their response to my ID.4 info request was a reply about some used 2019 cars. Not confidence building! Doesn't look like they can find their a$$ with both hands.)
I emailed our dealer in Southern California and he wrote that VW is assigning VINs to customers as we speak. First 4 or 5 orders should arrive by end of March, with rest coming in April/May.
Hope to get it by March 26, which is when our EV grant expires! Ordered on 9/23/20 and paid the $400 the day it became an option.

I contacted my dealer in November, I have an AWD version on order. He felt that I would get my ID.4 before the dealership got their demo car. He has been saying that ever since. When the note came out about 1st editions being delivered the week of 15-March and demo vehicles being delivered the following week. I sent him a copy of the note, 2 days later he replied... "you are correct, we are getting our demo 23-March." VW seems to be keeping the dealers in the dark as much as they are the customers. But some dealers are more incompetent than others.
I may apply for that same grant. Do you mind telling us how long it took to get approved?
I helped my parents apply for it September 2020 and they were approved November 2020, almost exactly two months. Had we known it was that quick, and VW would delay the ID.4, we would have applied later.
