ID4 with 3.1 -- always have to clear "the primary user of this vehicle can track" message when getting in

In order to create a primary user, I had to wipe my car from myVW app and re-add it using the QR code on the infotainment screen and guess what, as Grenamier says, now when I get in I have to confirm the active (primary) user every time.
Here's a thought - have you tried the Factory default to remove the user and see what happens if you cancel out of the select a user screen on first bootup?

There was originally no user other than the default guest user and that was what generated the message in my original post every time I get in.
@Manybees said he cancelled out of that dialog the first time and doesn’t get prompted… (I think I’m remembering that right)

Yes. Exactly. The only set up of Car-Net I ever did was when I first bought the car when it was new. After the 3.1 upgrade, the first thing that appeared on the screen was some sort of prompt to set up a profile for Car-Net services (wish I had taken a pic now!). If I remember correctly, I chose “ask me later”, and then when I got asked again later, I chose not to be reminded anymore.

The result was that the car has just used the original Car-Net account. I have never set up any kind of user or profile after the upgrade. Since the upgrade, I just get in the car and start it just like I did when I had 2.1, with no prompt or OK button or anything. That would drive me nuts, honestly.

Also, FWIW, my upgrade went 100% smoothly — done in 2 days and no module replacements or battery issues. Car built in Dec 2021.
Here’s an idea… maybe because you have the original CarNet module, that’s why it doesn’t prompt you? I had mine replaced and the part number ends in “B” so it’s a newer version. No idea when they changed that, though… and no way to tell which version is in tour car unless you have an OBDeleven or VCDS tool or ask the dealer :)

I have an OBDEleven. Where would I check the Car-Net module version?

Also, if getting a future software upgrade means that my car gets “fixed” so that user profiles “work”, and I start getting prompted every time I start the car, then I don’t want any more upgrades. I’m perfectly happy with the car as-is.
I don’t know OBDeleven, but on VCDS you can get a printout of all modules and their errors and it lists software and hardware versions for each.

When I got the car back after 3.1, I made no initial changes (ie, no user/profile set up) and it prompted me every time about the primary user message and I had to hit ok or cancel or something like that. I tried setting up a primary user and now every time it says hello [Firstname] [Lastinitial] and I have to hit either OK or change user.

Prior to the upgrade, I never had to hit anything.
Yes, same here… but whether or not you setup a primary user, you still have to hit Okay every time, right?
