My car was parked in the sun during an 85F day. The screen and controls took 20 minutes to cool and return function. My air condition control could not be accessed. We drove with the windows open for a while.

Does anyone have a solution other than placing a piece of foil insulation to keep the screen and electronics cooler?

tks

May not be the answer you’re looking for, but they do sell a windshield sun shade… it’s VW Part 11A064366. About $30 online.

Here's another extreme datapoint. My ID.4 sat out in the 110+ degree heat wave we got in Pacific Northwest back in June. The screen was literally too hot to swipe for more than a millisecond. However, I never had any issue with slow startup. The car booted and performed normally. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed in that environment.

Our base model Pro had a front windshield sun shade included; had it not it would have been the very first thing I would have purchased. Living in FLAH, I'm obsessed with parking in the shade or under cover whenever possible. When neither is available, out comes the sun shade.

Had my FE since early May, 2k+ miles. Although it's garaged, most every day it spends significant time parked in the sun without a sun screen. Any day under 90F is a cool day around here. Never once have I had issues using the screen or controls. So it sounds like your screen maybe exhibiting unusual sensitivity to heat.

BTW can't you use Carnet to switch your AC on?

Several things to try:
  • Hit the Hello ID button on the steering wheel and say "I feel warm."
  • If you have voice recognition on, say "hello ID". When it acknowledges, say "I feel warm".
  • Use the VW app to set temp before taking off

I've used the 3rd option more times than the other two.

We live in the southwest days up to 110, we have never had an issue with the screen. We do try to use window sun shade it’s just better for the car overall.
