Let me get this straight. At the start they found error codes; did you have any issues with the car before taking it in?
No but in checking the with the code reader it had thrown several codes with the infotainment system and the acc lane assist. I never saw the codes or issues. My wife said she remember once or twice seeing the acc lane assist or something went off. They tried clearing the codes and reprogramming the the module. The module would not reset or reprogram. They overnighted another module. It took them several hours to get it programmed and said the car was ready to go. When we got home we found out the comfort features like the easy open hatch, the door lock and unlock features were not working great. So we called and turned around and took it back. They tried for two days to get it programmed to work, no. VW told them they now need to replace the comfort module in which will take 1 to 2 weeks or longer to get get here. Wow 😮. All due to a simple 5k check up and analysisLet me get this straight. At the start they found error codes; did you have any issues with the car before taking it in?
Kinda frustrating. We are without our car for up to 2 weeks. We are planning a trip to Texas in 3 weeks so hopefully fixed by then. They did give us a loaner and said they would give us rental for our trip but would be nice to take our own car and not pay gas"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
"If we break it and it's under warranty, we can throw parts at it to fix what we broke."
There are growing pains with any new car. The problem right now is the availability of parts and the long time that they take to ship and of course the learning curve of EVs.I suspect this may be a case of a new EV specialist learning about your new EV, at your expense.
Actually what my earlier post implies is that I suspect many of the long delivery parts aren’t actually defective, but being replaced due to inexperienced dealer service techs following advice from inexperienced VW support personnel. There are growing pains with any new car. I would agree. They said the majority of these issues will be fixed with the 2.3 and 2.3.1 update. The new cars are being built with the new update, so why can’t they get rolled out?Actually what my earlier post implies is that I suspect many of the long delivery parts aren’t actually defective, but being replaced due to inexperienced dealer service techs followNG advice from inexperienced VW support personnel.
Can you post picture of error codes and what exactly they replaced and what else they are looking to replace....this makes no sense...if you can please post....or give me name of Dealership city and state.Took our FE in for the 5k service. They couldn’t clear the error codes so they replaced infotainment module. When they got it in they hard a heck of a time getting it programmed, once they did we picked up the car and took it 40 miles home. When we got home we found none of the comfort features we’re working. Took it 40 miles back and now VW is saying the comfort module needs to be replaced. This part will take at least two weeks to get in, has anyone else had these issues?
it’s their first OTA, they probably want to make sure they don’t end up bricking 100k vehicles…. Would be nice if they could avoid being like windows updates and the grief that often comes with them…The new cars are being built with the new update, so why can’t they get rolled out?
There where 3 revisions on various modules from 1st Edition to June build and changes how they communicate over Gateway.....and this alone makes software developers going through a lot of ☕....and what they say if you squash one bug there is another popping up and gets you back to square one. We still don’t have the car. Don’t know what the error codes exactly were. One time the infotainment screen went blank and the others my wife said were the acc and drivers assist errors. When we talked with the dealer they said they tried several times to clear and reprogram the module with no success. They got a different module in and still had a hard time getting it programmed, they even tried putting the old one back in with no luck but finally got the “new one” to clear and programmed, I did notice that the new module they put in showed 3200 miles on the car, our car actually had 6200 miles on it, I think they put in a used module from a different car. (Don’t know for sure) From what my understanding is, it was the infotainment module behind the glove box. After that the comfort systems would not respond to the new module. The easy open and the keyless entry no longer would work. They talked with VW and they said to replace the comfort module. They have to order this in which will take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks, making me think again the other one they put in was a used one since it only took a day to put in? Anyway it is Berge Volkswagen in Gilbert Az. They are really nice and did give us a loaner, but now we are back paying for gas and possibly taking a 2000 mile trip without our car and paying for gas. On a side note there were two rattles in the dash, one coming from the infotainment screen and the other can’t locate. They were suppose to fix that and didn’t, but assured they would get it taken care of. What makes matters worse, on our 30 mile trip back to the dealer we caught a rock on the windshield putting a small chip in it. Not a good trip for a 5k check up. Again the dealer and service people are super nice but…. we really like the car, the ride and the design, we had no issues up to this point except the little rattles. This is our 6th VW. I like them so much I even own stock.it’s their first OTA, they probably want to make sure they don’t end up briking 100k vehicles…. Sorry for the long explanation if you missed it buried, it’s Berge Volkswagen Gilbert Arizona. We have had the car since Mid April, we were the first customers to buy the ID.4 from this dealer. 😎. Again the dealership is great, just think they are as baffled as we are.We still don’t have the car. Don’t know what the error codes exactly were. Try to be patient...from your statement they used parts from demo ID4....just make sure they involve VW engineering department...and who knows maybe i get lucky and get there to fix.We still don’t have the car. ID4 was rushed to US and all people at VW and most experienced technicians when they start looking at various different codings will agree....I totally get it, worked in appdev and IT most of my life and I understand how important this all is.
I was QA manager for a software shop in the late 90s. One Friday evening the VP of sales walks into my office and drops me a fresh set of floppy with our latest and greatest that must ship that evening to one of our major client due to some promise they made. The installation wouldn’t even run, the guy wanted me to sign off on it anyway and the devs would fix it later. Told him couldn’t which got him furious stomping is feet. I politely requested he piss off out of my office and go back to the dev team to fix this. He was back couple hours later with something we could install and test….
I hope I don't jinx myself either since my car is working great. The biggest issue I have is my learning curve, but lots of good tips from here. What is the "Comfort Module" anyway? I've not heard this term before. By the naming convention (dealer's?) I presume one that handles the bulk of the user comfort/interface items?
btw: One could say as an example that each new iPhone/iPad/Mac rollout is "rushed" to some degree as there are always iOS updates soon thereafter. They get manufactured and shipped and then new code catches up with them.
The ID.4's Infotainment screen is pretty much an iPad so I guess code updates in this realm are going to be something we similarly get used to. Just different to encounter in a vehicle for most, myself included.
I'm going to jinx myself here but I must have gotten a peach (opposite of lemon) as I have no such issues. 🤷♂️
A question unrelated to your issue.....AFAIK after the initial 30-60 day check the first maintenance service on a new ID.4 (without a recall or warranty issue) is at 10k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. You reference a 5k check up. Do you really mean 60 days? Not a good trip for a 5k check up.
