Insurance on ID.4

Has anyone here with a pre-order gotten any quotes from their insurance for the ID.4? Curious if it will be significantly higher than say a comparable Tiguan. I know that was true of Teslas at least for awhile if not still. I know it varies across the country but genuinely curious if it's gonna be a cringeworthy number or just a "meh" small increase.

I have a guess from Progressive at 1200$ / 6 months. Still waiting for more official numbers but they are not willing to put a stake down since the car is still not really available.

That's a double of what I'm paying for Q5 for comparison.

yeah that's 4x my Tiguan. I guess I'll reach out to my insurance agent and see if they can give numbers.
Good luck with that, @datwater, it took me quite some time to wrangle the number I got so far. It might be a product of coverage I carry on Q5 (pretty much maxed out on everything), but it is still much higher than what I was hoping for. It makes me wonder what the quote for eTron is in this case, given that the loaded version goes for 80+k
Luckily I use a small provider at a place I used to work and have a good rapport with my former co-worker / agent there. Hopefully she can get me some solid info at least for my situation. I'll let you guys know what I hear.

Aaaand - she's on vacation this week - I'll come back with some numbers next week I guess. :)

As the car is not available yet, any quotes you get from insurance companies (if they even provide one) will be high. Different companies handle EVs differently so definitely worth shopping around for insurance rates.

As far as the insurance on the Model 3 - when I first called around, most insurance companies were using Model S rates for the 3. When I did get mine, my insurance rate went down from the C300 I had beforehand. Most people complaining about the insurance rates were coming from Toyotas and Hondas. Rates also vary greatly by location (and by zip code) so using someone else's quote is irrelevant.
So ... if this is not an indiscretion to ask. What is the ball park figure then you're paying for model 3?

I pay $750/six months. Keep in mind, I am in Los Angeles which has "above average" rates and is also part of an umbrella policy. For comparison, my wife's 2014 Subaru Outback is $600/six months.

Thanks, that is not as bad as the "quote" (more of a guess) I got so far. I am sure a lot of people will keep on chipping away at their insurance companies and we can have some reasonable guesstimate on what it will actually cost to have one insured in the near future.
I'm hoping that the simple "VW" label will result in better rates than for BMW, Audi, M-B. A good comparison this time next year will be loaded AWD ID.4 v. Audi Q4 e-Tron.

Yeah I wasn't asking for numbers as much as "it doubled from my previous car" or "went up 5 percent" or whatever. I'm excited, with just a few months to go now!
How far can you get with a quote without a valid VIN? The VIN for one of the pre-production cars was posted but it didn't seem to be of much help getting insurance quotes. Any time I have asked for an insurance quote one of the first things they have asked for is the VIN.

There were a few VIN numbers floating on photos around here. Granted, these were demo unit. I am trying to obtain a production VIN number right now through a local VW dealership but it is a drag.
I just requested Progressive to add ID.4 as well as Q4 eTron to their list of supported vehicles knowing these are coming into US in 2021. They promised 4 day turnaround, so I should have more solid numbers next Monday

The mach-e has been available for a while on the progressive website. When I add it to my policy the 4 month increase is $284, extrapolated to 6 month would be $420 increase. I would think the Id.4 would not be any higher
Keep in mind that the bulk of US auto insurance is risk averse protection for potential injury to others (or from non-insured drivers, even tho' everyone is supposed to be insured). The vehicle itself is relatively minor by comparison, although until there is some history with a new vehicle it tends to be higher. Therefore your locale plays a major role in rate computation (demographics of density, etc.).
Until we have actual US sales I'm not even going to bother getting a quote.

Good points @Huey52, which is why my insurance will probably run higher (Colorado) given how many accidents there are in here and what winter road conditions we get
Its going to be more...count on it.
