I get this notification every time I start the car. When I tape on it, it just takes me to the main infotainment home screen. I don't see anywhere in the settings to change a privacy setting. It wouldn't bother me too much, I don't really need an internet connection. Except that I suspect this is why my Car-Net is not working (shows my car, but battery level and climate control status just say "Unknown")

Has anyone else gotten this notification and figured out how to fix it?

I got my problem fixed. On the screen under the temp reading, should be the symbol of the cellular 4G . If that is missing, it means there is no connection between the car and the internet. The Car-Net app will not work to show battery status and climate control. I took the car to the dealer and got the module replaced. I would suggest you not disregard the message since internet connection will be needed to receive the much anticipated over the air software updates.

Aah. Now I get it. So when we picked up our car this past Thursday, the dealer was having a problem setting up car-net on their end and said once the service dept figures out why we will need to bring the car back in. I even forwarded them you comment bout the module but haven't heard anything back yet. But that makes sense now.

I have the exact same problem with my brand new AWD Pro. The SOS button isn't working either. @briancarraher, what dealer did you bring this to? I can have my dealer call your dealer to see if their experience can be extracted to solve my problem.
I took mine to Niello VW in Sacramento, CA. If you do have a car-net module replacement, be sure to leave the dealership with both key fobs. Both fobs will need to be reprogrammed at the same time so be sure to do this. Otherwise, like me, you will have to make another appointment.

My dealer checked out my carnet issue and figured out they needed to replace the module. I’m now waiting for both the new module to come in and for them to have a loaner available for me so they can do the swap.

Last time I took it in the loaner I got was another ID4 FE, which was pretty exciting.

Update. We're bordering on ridiculous now.

They brought my car in on Monday to run their diagnostics. I had to take my car back on Wednesday to install winter tires, so they told me to rebook for the following week after their diagnostics found nothing at fault and couldn't fix my problem.

I dropped my car off on Tuesday this week. It's now in the shop for 7 days now, and they still haven't found the problem. They have "ripped apart" the back of the car to access some modules, so I can't bring my car home, and they're now saying that it'll take at least another week before they even know what's going on.

Apparently they call some type of "VW Help Line" and get instructions to try something, they try it, and when that doesn't resolve the issue, they call the help line again and wait in the queue to get the next set of instructions.

Absolutely ridiculous. Why are they going through the entire manual when they have an error code, VERY CLEARLY this has happened before, and just replace the damn module.

I've been without my car for this week, and AT LEAST next week. The dealer isn't at fault, they're just "following instructions" and "waiting in a queue" every time they call in.

Absolutely ridiculous.

SOLVED.

After 2+ weeks at the dealer, I finally got my ID4 back, and Carnet is finally in working condition.

The technician was very thorough with his notes, and the notes read like a software QA report. Over two weeks, they followed instructions relayed from VW Germany -> VW America -> VW Canada to reset software, pull fuses, let it "sleep" outside overnight, and other diagnostic events. In the end, they exhausted their diagnostic tools and replaced the J949 Control Module and that did the trick.

For the next person who runs into this: I'm not sure if you'll be able to convince your dealer to bypass the lengthy diagnostic process as it sounds like they MUST follow it or else the sky will fall, but there is a solution and to solve it takes a part, about 4 hours to install it, which includes apparently ripping out the back seats, carpet, and A-pillar trim to access the module.
