I have my vehicle set for daily departure times, with climate control on and "unlock when charged" set

Yet every day when it's time to leave the charger is locked and I need to unlock it with the key fob.

I have a plugin Toyota and I have it set to lock while charging and unlock when done. works all the time. Also, if I want to stop charging before it's done, there is a button next to the charge port - if pushed when you have the key fob on you, it unlocks.

No, it does Not appear to be working, along with No proper charge scheduling.
I turned it on a couple months ago as even tho' designed as a courtesy feature at public charging lots I too thought it would make EVSE nozzle extraction easier at home as well. When I discovered that scheduled charging wasn't working I also turned this feature off to reduce variables.
In the past month I've not had to use my key fob-unlock to detach my home EVSE nozzle, the next morning after night-to-80% charging, so have just left it off.
I do have On Demand - Permanent selected however. Also pre-conditioning temp, with no issues.

I am sure this has been talked before, but I am not sure I understand the "use auto plug unlock AC" setting on CarNet. To me that says that it will unlock the plug when complete, although I don't know what the "AC" is referring to unless it is short for "after charging". But then under that heading are the words "Allow on demand charging of vehicle after a charge cycle is complete" which makes me think that if on it will continue to trickle charge the battery after hitting the charge target, and when off will not allow any more charging after hitting the target. Those things seem to be unrelated, especially when one of the choices is "permanent"

Does the car continue to trickle charge as long as the plug is locked in? if you unlock it does that terminate all charging? I feel I am being slow, but this one confuses me.

You're not being slow; this is confusing at best and I'm not absolutely sure either, but my understanding is the same as yours.

Since the vehicle is always using some power it would seem logical that it does "trickle charge" (battery tended) as long as allowed to do so by EVSE nozzle attachment and vehicle setting as indicated.

Thanks @Huey52 that is what I am going with!

I had turned mine off because I have heard that keeping a battery on constant charge is not good for it, but thinking back that was in relation to cell phones where you go to 100% a lot. I would think that with an actively cooled and very managed battery that is only going to 80% it would be fine. Will probably turn mine back on and see what happens.

The EVSE doesn't trickle charge. Once the car reaches the intended SoC, it stops charging and stops all current from flowing through the handle. Once the relays in your EVSE click off, that's it.

Regarding the unlock - mine seems to be working fine. I've never come up to the car and had a locked charging handle with this setting on. And it does work when I turn it off - the handle will stay locked unless I unlock the car.

Could you share a screen shot of your charging setting? I've had all sort of troubles with home charging in the week I've had the car. The only thing that has worked for me (I think, it's only worked one time) is to delete my home charging location, not set any kind of schedules, and let the Juicebox turn on charging during the night.

I basically have everything turned off. Scheduling never did work for me, caused other charge-halt issues I believe, and again I gave up on it early on. I don't have an off-peak rate anyway but I still like to charge at night. I have not let my ChargePoint schedule a charge but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't work.
I know others who have not set a location, with all else on default save for the 80% max, and charging has worked fine for them.

btw: I thought I had some other settings available, such as "... Permanent ..." but now not there. I had my 60-day dealership visit May 17th. Hmmmm .....

At home, when I plug in, the charger starts the charge process. When it reaches the desired SOC the charger stops and I can pull out the plug. If the car is locked when I charge, I have to unlock the car before removing the plug. It is the same process when using an EA charger.

I have an [unproven] suspicion that mine was greyed out as part of my 60-day service visit, or by a recent OTA update?

Since unlock-when-charged, along with scheduling, caused me issues I'm ok seeing it gone until VW & EA fully resolve all charging issues.

I think VW may have taken the prudent engineering troubleshooting step of first reducing variables. 🤷‍♂️

I took a look at this screen yesterday and "Unlock When Charged" is greyed out. Is there any way to turn this option on?
I'm not using scheduled charging, btw.

I’m with you on this. Very confusing. VW needs to make a video to explain what the wording means. This is a case of a very smart software engineer writing in dialog boxes without ever driving and living with the ID.4. In particular, what does ”AC” mean. It could be short for several words, but without specifying a meaning it leaves a new owner in the dark.

Often the case with engineering terms making perfect sense to the design engineer, but not translating well to the general public. That's why a very good technical writer is needed as a go between. VW apparently missed that step in this case. As many, I feel it means "Automatically unlock plug after charge" and is primarily a courtesy feature when at public chargers so another may use when you're done. But then it doesn't currently work anyway.
btw: my last couple home charges I've had to use my key fob to unlock the nozzle. This has been off again/on again for me. 🤷‍♂️

As a common curtesy to other EV users, if you are using a public charger and you cannot figure out how to enable 'Unlock after charging', make sure you return to your vehicle to move your car so others can charge. This is the most aggravating thing about EV etiquette that I come across. You also need to move your car as soon as charging is finished, as you may also be taking the parking spot.

I can assure you, that is never an issue for me. I usually stay in the car while charging. Or walk to the nearest food source to get something to eat. I rarely wait for a full charge before moving on.

My biggest issue was when charging at home. We set the car for a 9 am daily departure and nearly every day the charger was locked to the car. Being that the door locks and the ignition are hands-free the key is usually in a purse or a pocket, which makes unlocking the charger annoying.

It seems the issue was less a failure to unlock than it is an issue with the ability to hit the set stop time. So, our fix - as our electricity pricing is the same all day/night - was to simply set the car to charge immediately when plugged in. In doing so the car is always charged fully before we are going anywhere and the charger is unlocked and ready to be removed.

I am registered in a program with my utility that allows them to slow my charger down during peak periods, but that has never resulted in me not having a full charge when needed.

I’m quite sure it means Alternating Current. One of the things that is widely known, but not widely taught is the complete differentiation in EVs between AC charging and DC (fast) charging. Level 1 or 2, let's call it 'home charging', uses a battery charger built into the car to convert Alternating Current from regular 'home' AC electrical sources to Direct Current (DC) to recharge the propulsion battery. DC charging provides Direct Current electricity from places like Electrify America and EVgo 'straight-piped' to the vehicle's propulsion battery.

I could be wrong, it's hard to say because virtually nothing pertaining to Alternating Current home charging/scheduling/preferences in the infotainment screen works properly--- BUT, I can't think of anything in those settings that is germane to anything but home AC charging. In other words, what I think that setting is trying to say is that when you toggle it to automatically unlock, it will only work at home with the J1772 home plug when AC charging, not the DC fast charging full CCS plug that you use by removing the pull-off port cover at fast charging locations. Edit: That's if that unlock setting did work as intended. I don't think it ever has for me.

After a replacement of the gateway module ( stuck on the side of the Mass Pike on a stormy night) my previous “ Auto Unlock “ function stopped working.
Option was greyed out on screen. However I discovered that plugging in my home L2 evse to actively charge allowed the unlock option to reappear and let me change my setting.
Apparently it only is changeable while actively charging.

Are you aware that you were responding to my post of May 2021? Much has has been learned since my cited unproven theory at the time.

Yes it works fine. It solved the problem of not being able to unplug when the charge was complete.
