The problem is when I am with my wife, but she doesn't have her key fob with her. The car is initially locked.

I approach the car - I squeeze the door handle twice, I hear the locks click, and both doors on the driver side are then unlocked.

But sometimes my wife complains that her door is still locked. I squeeze the handle twice again - I hear the locks click again. Tell her it is unlocked. She says it is still locked. We go back and forth several times on this - if I walk over to the passenger side, I can unlock, but I have a key fob.

In theory I can get out the keyfob and press the unlock button twice, but I keep that in a zippered pouch (mainly to prevent accidental activation of the panic button), and it is a nuisance to get it out. I end up having to do this to unlock the charger sometimes - that's a different story.

If I get in the car, I am still trying to find a button to press to unlock all the doors. Most other cars have a single button you press to unlock all the doors. I can press the little lock button on the side to engage and then disengage the locking - but I have to press this twice, and that seems to do the job of unlocking.

If my wife has her key fob, then of course she has no problem.

Is there some other way to unlock ALL of the doors?

There is a setting to unlock only driver door or all doors when a key fob approaches. The default is driver door only. I recently changed this for the same reason you described. Now if only I remembered where exactly the setting is …

What's worse is that when I then get in the car, the passenger side door is still locked and tapping the door lock icon on my door doesn't unlock the passenger door. I have to reach over and do a manual (non-electronic) unlock of the door.

I‘ve seen this same issue with folks trying to get in with me who aren’t carrying a key… I haven’t figured exactly why the passenger door is sometimes locked and sometimes not. It seems like if I the key fob and touch either front door it only unlocks the doors on that side. And the lack of a traditional “unlock“ button on the driver’s door means I can’t just easily unlock it for someone. I’ve resorted to either using the unlock button on the key fob or just reaching across, which seems like I’m missing something. I consulted the manual and found nothing useful… so I just checked out the vehicle settings menu.

Eureka! Under Vehicle settings, Central Locking is the setting to change vehicle unlocking with the key. Options are: One Door, Vehicle Side, All Doors. Default was Vehicle Side! I guess for safety if you’re worried someone could sneak up to the other side in a parking garag? Anyway, changing it to All Doors solved the problem for us!

(Also, the manual does call out that proximity unlock will be disabled until the vehicle is next locked if not used ”for a long period of time”… but it doesn’t say what a “long period” is. I guess it takes more 12v battery power to scan for the key proximity… so they turn it off the save the 12v battery,)
