6/18: Reserved ID.4 AWD Pro S Gradient. Paid $100.

6/18 Received email confirmation and going over next steps (i.e. be on the lookout for future emails asking for an additional deposit to lock production).

6/21: Got email from VW 3 days later starting it was now time to lock in my order and asking for $400 payment by July 5th. Email also stated it would take 6-8 months for the AWD model I ordered.

6/21: Received another email on this date after paying the extra $400 stating my ID.4 was locked for production and my ETA moved up to Sep-Oct delivery. VW dealer specialist also called me around this time to state that he was informed my model was locked for production and I could expect it much sooner than the original estimate of around January 2022 since he was told VW was building loaded Pro S models before the Pro.

No email updates since 6/21. Still at step 3 (locked for production) with Sept-Oct delivery. Can’t seem to figure out how to find the codes or VIN # everyone talks about in the chrome developer tools (I use a PC so maybe it only works on a Mac). I did call VW customer care Friday and after a long hold they stated I should receive my car in 4-5 weeks, but I don’t think they are right unless for some reason my wheel of torture isn’t being updated. Everything I have seen states I am looking at 6 weeks minimum for delivery to Nevada from the time it leaves the factory.

Unless you ordered the Gradient package, doesn’t seem like you’ll hear anything for a while.

VW has basically said they’re prioritizing higher profit cars to offset various parts and chip shortages. You’d think that would include any Pro S, but that extra $1,500 the Gradient package pulls in appears to be all-important to them right now. If you’re in a rush, a lot of folks have had luck simply adding on Gradient and then removing it when locking.

How long did it take some of you to get that locked in after making the order.?
Here is how long it took for lock and every other step for the current 157 of us who care enough to enter our info to track this:
Its the time to leaving the factory that really matters, since VW locked 9 months q of AWD orders in a few weeks and they say they will get produced in the order reserved.

If you look at the tracking linked above, this is not true. Looking at AWD since thats the big year long q, there are 6 Pro S that have left the factory, and 9 with gradient. The Pro appear to be the orders that were slowed down (3 produced), as stated in VW's only email about this.

True, some regular AWD Pro S orders are still happening but it seems heavily weighted to Gradients. Looking at locks, Gradient orders since May/June when shortages became apparent are just over 80% locked while only about 35% of non-Gradient AWD Pro S reservations are locked. We don't really know how complete that doc is, so of course who knows how useful these numbers can be. But nonetheless the two percents are so far apart so I can't help but be swayed ;)

I may be off here, but I believe to go from step 1 to step 3 requires the dealer you have selected to actually place the order for the car in VW's system. How VW allocates the slots they will let a dealer use is too deep inside their business for me to know. One dealer I spoke to said VW had just "opened the window" for him to accept orders.

I ordered a ProS from one dealer and my wife ordered an identical car from another nearby dealer to try to skirt this issue. They are now both in step 3 (build queue).

Placed my Pro S AWD order 6/8, still on step 1. haven't locked yet. Wisconsin dealer. you're not the only one unfortunately. When I reserved there was one screen that estimated 2/22 for delivery, but at this point and after one user that reserved in May receiving an e-mail from VW to wait a while for their Pro (would be a 20221 model whatever that means), change to gradient, or get a RWD.

This is the reason you should check your dealers for canceled orders. I ordered a Pro in March and scooped up a FE a week later from a canceled order.

Well I don’t know if it is the reason why but I changed to the gradient package and now I’m locked in. Funny it says to expect in January/February but the email then states 6-8 months for an AWD lol. Whatever the case I’m just glad that progress is being made.

Nice. We've seen this behavior reported throughout the forum from various users, as suggested by @smc, which lends credence to the belief that the gradient packages are somehow being prioritized. I'll assume you are a believe as well in this theory! Hope the Jan/Feb timeframe you got is accurate but it seems aggressive based on how many others continue to get delivery time frames pushed out.

Good Luck!

Thanks ! Honestly as long as the car is here by May /June I’ll be a happy SOB. But otherwise I’ll “enjoy” the last few months of my gas guzzling 2006 Honda Pilot.
