Let's talk about the Key Fob

Maybe I’m missing something but I never take the fob out of my pocket… on either VW, I just touch the inside of the door handle to unlock and outside of the door handle (on the indent) to lock. If that’s not working for you guys, try taking it to your dealer and ask them to double check the KESSY system.

Also, VW uses elaborate time of flight security to prevent the use of re-transmitters/amplifiers to perform a relay attack which could let someone open your car while the key is still inside your house. (Google Hyundai car thefts to learn more.) This could cause it to shorten the effective range.

And sadly, yes, as extensively covered elsewhere on this site, for 2023 the power folding and memory side mirrors were moved up to a new “Plus” trim, along with 360 camera and black roof.

Oh, and yeah, it’s bigger than it needs to be, but pretty easy to carry - and it’s the VW corporate key fob, same as Mk8 Golf and others… so don’t expect it to change until they finally change it for all their cars when they end their infatuation with shiny black plastic sometime!

I do like it better than the Mk7 Golf key, which was squatter and heavier, more squared off and had the switch blade style pop-out key! They also put a lot of effort into the pop-out key ring mechanism that is also the emergency with an extra press of the same button.

wait until you start inadvertently setting off the panic alarm with the keys on your pocket while driving...then you will realize how stupid the key design really is. I ended up taking mine apart and disabling the panic button it was so annoying.
I just put a key cover on it …

I never take it out to lock/unlock the door, but I have to take it out all the time to unlock the charge cable! Even if my car is done charging, but I remotely turn on the climate controls, it will suck power out of the wall (good) but lock the cable (bad). In this scenario, there is not a "Stop Charging" button on the charge screen, so the only way I know how to unlock the cable is the FOB double-click or the drastic manual release lever.
Have you ever tried stopping the climate control from the app? Not sure if that will unlock the cable? But even if it doesn’t, you could always do that before unlocking the car … when you unlock the car from the door handle it also unlocks the charge port.

Because you have to make a deliberate action to lock, instead of just wandering off. It may cause you to stop and think for a second. Kids and pets baked in cars is unfortunately not uncommon. I did not know there is an interior motion detector. Great idea!
I don’t recall an interior motion sensor… this car doesn’t do passenger monitoring via camera; that’s why there’s a capacitive sensor in the steering wheel and pressure sensors in the front seats. Pulling the door handle from inside a locked car should set off the alarm, however…

This is not the U.S. manual (the use of "boot lid" is a pretty good hint). As far as I know, no U.S. model of the ID.4 has the anti-theft alarm, interior monitoring, or anti-tow alarm.
Yeah, I never saw those options in my settings and I did go through all the menus… must be another EU-only thing. Plus, 2021 was the first year in the US.
