I'm like oh yeah we'll see.
If I had to get a euro for every message from what VW announced, I could now lie on my lazy ass.:)
We still haven't received update 3.0 and to be honest I'm not looking forward to it.
Only Battery percentage on screen and better NAV and am satisfied

Finally my work in China and showing many different infotainement software solutions have been making changes trough the VW corporate.... there will be a lot of optimization and improvements coming to the ID family and all ICE vehicle's running this hardware.
Hard core Golf R enthusiasts have been really disappointed in VW approach to loose heritage how Mk8 Golf should really feel and interact with owners.
My daughter is giving me daily hard time about infotainement screen and software that is way below calling it VW heritage.

Battery pack precondition while navigating to fast DC chargers will be integrated. There has been a lot of things happening at Corporate level at VW.

Do you mean optimization and improvements to existing ID cars or only those with the new hardware

From Schaeffer's statements, it would seem 3.0 might now be more than that.

OMG promises promises promises all to sell a car.

Look, it's not that I don't want to give "the new guy" some room to spread his wings and fix things.

But Schafer comes to LA to drop this little truth nugget that doesn't acknowledge (in fact completely ignores) the real truth: people are pissed because VW in the US hasn't updated their software.

He's like the contractor who hasn't finished the job, and yet is pointing out new work, "Oh, I could do this for you, I could do that." Dude just finish the job you started before talking about new work!

But even moreso tell me VoA even has a seat at the table. We see Europeans getting dribs and drabs of software updates – no where near the 3-month OTA cycle VW would love to hit – but something, and some form of communication.

So VW, and VW of America specifically: I know you need to sell cars, and I know if you can't deliver today then sell 'em what you'll deliver tomorrow. But for goodness sake stop already. Your problem isn't sliders and unlighted controls, your problem is you're not communicating with your customers and you're not delivering on expectations you sold us.

And watch out for your consumer outreach, or your next UI will look like a Volvo's telephone keypad or worse yet Homer's concept car.

Is there a possibility to import the Homer's concept car to EU:)

The three month -cycle is not happening. I can PM you a link to a podcast where the country manager of VW (not Germany) flat out says that he doesn't believe that it will be achieved and it doesn't even seem to be the goal anymore. Just be warned, it's in a language considered one of the most difficult in the world to learn. And google translate isn't going to cut it on Spotify podcast.

I will definitely install all updates but also keep in mind that not all changes will be an improvement for everyone like many updates in all devices we use every day.
Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
Or as the famous old software joke goes:

99 little bugs in the code,
99 little bugs.
You take one down,
patch it around,
117 little bugs in the code!

I am VERY ENCOURAGED that the CEO of VW is saying exactly the same things I've been saying about the software and his prescriptions for change are quite like what I've been prescribing.

Here's hoping that 3.1 (or 3.2) makes the car tolerable and that there's then a cadence of further incremental improvements that make the software what it could have/should have been!

I now read there a kind of growing infatuation between you and the new CEO 😁

Being able to see the problem and admit to the problem is the first step in correcting the problem.

And as I've said, I really like my ID.4; I just detest the utterly-incompetent software with which it is equipped.

Some folks know that nowadays, I work for Dean Kamen. Dean is a VERY hands on CEO: we're developing a new medical device and Dean uses it constantly. (Not medically, just in a “continuous testing” context.)

If we have a bug in our software or even some usability issue in the UI, Dean comes right down to our area (one floor below his office) and makes sure 1) we know about it and 2) have a plan to fix it and right soon. This is one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about software quality. I used to work for a company that developed the operating system software that ran stock exchanges. Stock exchanges don't like downtime or software failures. I used to work for a company that developed semiconductor test systems (hardware and software) that were used in Billion Dollar semiconductor fabrication factories. Semiconductor fabs don't like downtime or software failures. And now I develop software that runs life-saving AND life-critical medical devices. And the owner of the entire company sits one floor above me and routinely uses the devices that I develop.

THAT is why I feel the way that I do about software quality, usability, and reliability.

I would totally believe that. I never understood that approach from the start – it never made any sense. It's a car.

I understood then that it's new and unfinished software. What makes sense is that it's a work in progress, and we should expect it to need updates. But to my way of thinking, updates are ready when they're ready. An artificial 12 week cycle seemed unnecessary, and I couldn't imagine it would go on indefinitely – at some point the cake is fully baked.

PLEASE have them add a manual preheat button as well, that can be turned off again as well, and just turns off as soon as the battery reaches the optimal temp (20 degrees c?)
I have too little faith in VW automating stuff 100% correctly every time, and the ability to preheat the battery for optimal charging manually will fix most of corner cases where automation fails.

Many English speaking people may not realize that English is in fact one of the hardest languages for non English speakers to learn. Lots of slang, idioms, inconsistent spelling and grammar rules.

It isn't just automation failing - people might not be using builtin navi. Maybe you are just going to a charger you have been to before, so no directions needed. A manual override of some sort (with a voice action to turn on), and an indicator icon on the binnacle that shows when it is on.
