Wife put the ID4 in reverse today and it started making a loud humming noise from the interior of the car. We can also hear it on the outside but the noise seems to be concentrated in the rear seat area of the vehicle. Tried resetting the console multiple times, turning off all the sensor items, did a factory reset as well. Drove it around the block without any mechanical seeming issues just the persistent loud noise. Tried also plugging in a charger and that seems to work just fine but no matter what we try the noise wont go away. Have an appointment tomorrow to bring it in. Any idea what this could be or something else we can try to correct it? Maybe a sensor issue for reverse that got stuck? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum BlueManShoes!

Perhaps the rear pedestrian warning sound somehow got continuously activated? Or an issue with your audio system, perhaps subwoofer related?
Since it's continuous they should be able to identify, troubleshoot and repair under warranty. It's the intermittent flaws that are more troublesome.

Do let us know the resolution.

The US ID.4s do not have subwoofers.

This is your first post, Allison. Just want to make certain, youre aware of the 'pedestrian noise' that the ID.4 emits when going under 12 mph, or in reverse. If so... sorry for the dumb mention. :) We were not aware of that - and first time I backed out of the garage after buying our ID.4... we heard that noise and freaked out. :D

It is active up to 20 mph and very strong between 15-20 mph.And while in reverse it will be heard from inside .

Good to know the exact speed. I believe it tapers off as you speed up - but your number may be more accurate. Appreciate the accuracy check. My point though (for Allison and/or anyone new to an ID.4) is that there is indeed a "pedestrian warning" sound. It can be missed in test drives, as you may not back out.. and with the windows up.. the sounds is pretty muted when starting out. So, it is possible to purchase an ID.4 and have no idea there is that warning dinosaur gurgle / pedestrian warning. It is a common thing for new users to call the service department about, on their first days of ownership. :) This I know..

Had this happen to me tonight with our PRO S, 1200 miles. Noise started I believe after starting car and backing up. Noise was awful, especially driving 25 minutes from Emergency Room visit. Those not driving had to cover their ears. Tried stoping car, shutting it down, locking and unlocking to no avail. No warning lights came on. Interestingly, could not access radio, including volume control. Radio controls did not respond. Finally 10 to 15 minutes after plugging in car in garage, noise stopped.

Just have to add, the noise continued when the car was stopped and shut down.

We had this happen to our ID.4 First Edition this morning. Vehicle was put into reverse and an extremely loud sound played through the speakers. It was unclear if it was both internal and external speakers, but it was deafening. It seems as if a software bug caused the pedestrian warning system sound at an extremely amplified level. I turned the vehicle off numerous times and attempted to plug the vehicle in with no help. It eventually stopped after about 15 minutes. I then pulled the vehicle out again without an issue. Very strange.

It’s a bug, usually happening more when the car doesn’t get time to wake up (best is to sit in the car, not touching the brake until the infotainment is online and responsive)
Quick fix is to hold the infotainment power button (left of the temperature and volume sliders) for about 10 seconds to reset it. This will fix the beep.

Gosh I was googling this as we drove around with that godforsaken beep. Thank you so much. The quick fix helped!
