I got my Pro S only 10 days ago and was just getting used to it and was starting to enjoy it.
But today I got a nail in the side of back-left tire and got surprised with the cost of replacement.
A new Bridgestone tire costs about $300 with installation, because it's a "new" luxury tire according to the dealership.

This was my bad luck definitely, but makes me think how expensive such services would be for this "new" car.

Ive shopped tires for the 20” rims, and $300 would be high in that size. Did you shop around? In the 20’s, it’s not a new size, several cars in this class run them.

If you’re running 19 inch wheels, under $200 to $250 on tirerack.com.

But OEM tires, yeah, they’re special anyway. Definitely overpriced. Though $300 installed for a huge tire isn’t that unreasonable.

The ID.4 has meaty tires. Meaty tires cost more money. I suppose it depends on your point of reference, but $300 installed for one of the rear tires doesn’t seem unreasonable. Maybe a little high, probably because you sourced the tire from the dealer??

I got a quote from a nearby tire shop, and they said the tire is on back order on all their suppliers. And their quote was actually higher than the dealership. I just realized the dealership has plugged the car to a charger (left the car there as they said they can get the tire tomorrow morning) :)

[/a tire.
Thanks for the reply. This was for the 20 inch tire.
Probably you're right. I had a chevy cruze with small tires and not used to pay that much for atire.

$300 is not bad, here is the closest thing I found online priced at $253 + mount, balance, etc. Alenza Sport A/S - Size: 255/50R20 and they are hard to find the same as the stock low rolling resistance tire and size.
Thanks. I know the dealership deal was fair. It's The tire that is expensive (at least for me, compared to my previous compact sedan )

I did see a new ID.$ 1st sitting in a dealer showroom. The tires had the "AO" on the sidewall indicating Audi Original tires. These EVs are heavy and need tires that can help with the handling and ride of a heavier luxury car which equals $$$.

Agreed, except AO on the sidewall doesn't get you that, 105V XL does. The ID.4 is heavy but there are plenty of vehicles at this weight and tire size.

On a related note, I'm curious about tire costs when it comes time to replace all the tires. A lot of times when tires go on sale, instead of reducing the tire price by 25%, the store offers buy 3 get one free. Do those offers work with 2 different size tires?

I know in the UK the tyres for the ID range need to use T rated tyres. These cost more because they are a new design and different compound to other tyres. This allows for better battery efficency. Also it may cost more for tyres but you will save a lot more money on maintance costs.

Don't buy name brand and don't get them installed at the dealership. Just get the tire size and search online for off-brand names that basically do the same thing. Get them installed at a local shop for $10. For years I got Kumhos for $100 vs. Bridgestone $200 (same tires same material no difference) on my truck and paid $500 for all 4 tire replacements in comparison to +$1000

There are specific requirements that can raise the cost quickly. The wheels size is a killer, the same diameter tire in a 15” wheel would be a lot less. I don’t know the load rating but that is a factor with a heavy car. Speed rating shouldn’t be an issue though. Hopefully more brands will offer more options, should be closer to $150-200 once they aren’t rare.
I had a lifted jeep with 37” tires on 17” wheels at $450 per tire so I feel your pain.

If the sidewall is not damaged and only a nail hole, there is a work around and that is to purchase an inner tube. Much less expensive and just as effective. I have done that a few times before I started buying a road hazard warranty when buying new tires.

I had a flat right front today. Pulled a good size sheet metal screw from the edge of the tread. One of those tire plug kits made for a simple 20 minute repair (took a while to find a suitable jack). Tire plugs ought to be in everyone's kit.

I did one of these on my wife's Ioniq last year, really close to the sidewall but still in the "tread." I wonder how close to the sidewall OP's puncture was - I feel like a dealership would be less likely to repair it even if it was in a safe spot on the tread, I'd imagine. Easy way to sell a tire.

Some tire shops will not use plugs on a radial tire. They will only patch them. But I use plugs all the time on my UTV and riding mower.
