Just picked up a 1st Edition ID4 today. This is the first one the VW dealer in this area has sold. So excited to finally have this vehicle. There has been much discussion on this forum by many who have not had one of their own. Until you actually have one in your hands you can not really fathom the awesomeness of the ID4.. It is super quiet inside and the technology is mind boggling!

Congrats! I just picked up a cancelled FE in dallas and drove back home to austin .. no problems at EA stations, everything went as expected :) Such a comfy and quiet ride.
I got a canceled FE in San Antonio and brought back to Austin! A dealership in Ft Worth had one too I think. Pays to call around if people are getting antsy waiting.

That is how I got mine last week. I was not satisfied with the dealer I ordered from so I called a dealer I had test drove one in March and he had a 1st edition he could sale me. I agree with Froggy, if you are on a trip and see an EA coming up, stop and charge up if you are less than 75-80%. It will not take vary long and you can do some shopping! I have traveled 453 miles and am averaging 3.2 Kw/mi. At 77 useable Kw on the battery that is 246.4 miles range. Not to shabby! About 80% of those miles have been on the Interstate at 75 mph. I do use regeneration all the time. I have been to EA twice and charged at home a little just to see if my new Level 2 charger is working. I am amazed at how quick the EA chargers are.

Okay I should be more specific. On the highway that is. EA is also a 23 mile drive for me.
And I was assuming you were recommending using DC charging to top off the battery. As of now VW Customer Care is not recommending that.

The ID4 has an 82 Kw battery of which the BMS will only let you charge to 77Kw. Thus when you are charging to 100% you can only charge to 77Kw. For just driving around in normal driving, you would never really need to charge to 100%. But on a long trip you may need the extra 20% to make it to the next EA charger. If charging to 100% is something you only do occasionally there will be no damage to the battery. A few days ago I charged to 80% at an EA charger and then drove it home and topped it up to 100% with my level 2 charger because I was making a 220 mile round trip with no EA charger available. By the way, if you do take it past 80% at an EA charger it will take longer to charge because it automatically cuts back the Kws.

I currently have my charge limiter set at 80%. While EA is a 23 mile drive, I am routinely in that area twice a week . I passed by it once without topping off to 80%and found that in Slidell Louisiana I was limited to a ChargePoint level 2 for 2 hours in order to have enough juice to make it back to Gulfport MS . I made it to the EA Gulfport station with 4% on Earth Day.

My level 2 at home charges at about 10 Kw, but I do not know how long it would take to go from 10% to 80% because I have never done that, because seven minutes away it an EA charger that will do that in about 30 minutes and it is free.

I am glad to see others take the initiative in low adoption states like mine, Arkansas. I have had mine for 4 months now and haven't regretted it. I only charge when under 50% and then only up to 80%. Have only charged up to 100% once when I was range testing it from Fayetteville to the Buffalo River Valley National Park and back. Have used the Electrify America a couple times to see how it worked but it is too far away. Anyway Level 2 50amp at home can't be beat. 20% to 80% easily over night. I currently have logged 4000 miles which is good since I am leasing at 1000 miles/mo. for 3 years.

I am from Arkansas too. Have about 6.5k on my FE. Longest trip so far was From Clarksville to St. Louis. No problem finding EA stations, but to often issues with them. I have an EA about 10 minutes from my home so I go there and shop at the same time. We have floated the Buffalo several times.

Congratulations . Unfortunately I have to charge up to 100% every time that I go to see my aged parents. No CCS or convenient level 2 in their town. round trip is about 190 to 195. I need a bit of a safety margin if I have to drive her to the doctor.

Nice. I was thinking of taking a trip down your way as my family has ties in Lamar, (actually Lutherville up in the hills) near Clarksville, where there is an EA station. Good to hear that it is available.
