We’ve driven our ID for 10,000 miles. Our long-term average data screen shows 3.4 miles/ kilowatt hour . How does that compare with your data?
Can't remember the exact numbers (be merciful if I'm wrong) but consult Mythbusters in this case. I think they tested with like a large Dodge (magnum maybe?) station wagon that normally got probably 20mpg hwy. Very close to a large vehicle was like 100mpg but the further back you got there was still benefit, at even a decent / reasonable following distance, like maybe a 5% increase in efficiency. Not sure how that translates to an EV but I would think similar. So I think it can certainly help, even when further away.I'll have to find the discussion (it was on an ID.4 subReddit), b/c they specifically mentioned you could adjust the following setting to allow the most distance and still get a benefit.
I've only tested this twice - and didn't go less than 65mph, and for me at least, anything above 60mph means I won't get more than 3.5 or 3.6 (at least around the Charlotte NC area on I-85/I-485/I-77)
Honestly, I don't think it's enough of a boost to be worth it unless I was on very long drive. If I'm close to home, it's not going to be appreciable (and I hate being behind trucks).
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the A/C also come from the heat pump (as it pumps heat in both directions)? This is from a trip to the UK a couple of days ago. (95%highway driving)
My car has a heat pump so no need to have AC on.
