Today, volume on radio stopped working. Tried to get out of car. Do manual shutoff using silver button on steering column. Tried pressing on/off button on infotainment. It will NOT turn off infotainment.

No goodbye sound also. No sound.

although car said 'goodbye' after I got out, the radio switched back to Metallica. Did Metallica break my car with one of its 20 minute songs???

It looks like car is off?, but radio is stuck on with NO volume. Anybody know how I can reboot car????

When this happens, or volume only goes up but not down, or the screen goes black or shows an inverted image, hold down the infotainment "power" button (lower left corner of the screen, next to the temperature slider), for about 10 seconds. Infotainment will reboot, and all will be well.

My car issued an electrical system warning and the 5 seconds later completely shutdown (still power but only basic I fo like warnings, time, temperature). Hoping it’s an electrical converter issue or the 12V battery was bad from the factory. I’d be happy with infotainment issues, please.

Take your ID4 to any car parts store and ask them to load test your 12V battery.
You will need to power down your car while this is tested.....ID4 has to be off ( sleep mode) If it shows starting voltage over 13 V that means it is not sleeping...advise employee who test to make sure voltage is not 13V before preforming battery load test.
If for some reason ID4 is still not in sleep mode and keeping DC-DC inverter alive....let them remove negative terminal and test.
If they go this route....make sure all windows are in closed position.

Thanks.

This is a 5 day old car that was fresh off the delivery truck the day before I bought it. It's going back to the dealership tomorrow for diagnostics.

I was able to start + drive the car 15minutes after the random shutdown and the infotainment system was fully operating for 15+ minutes while parked as I spoke to VW Roadside Assistance and the dealership. I drove it home 1.5 mile as a test instead of getting it towed immediately (I was in a very busy road).

I've also submitted a NHTSA report... and I think others who have encountered the same to do so.

Indeed. 12V battery in our 2018 Benz GLA failed at almost exactly one year post-delivery.

Although the factory receives batteries continuously "just in time" from vendor(s) they may have sat on vendor shelves awaiting transport for quite some time. Or just a bad lot.
12V battery can go for many years trouble free or it can fail....

I sat in the car with everyone on this morning for 10+ minutes (looking to see if the UI/settings would provide some error log - no). I'm doubting the battery is bad but I will let the tech decides.

Speaking on which... my dealer has two ID.4s in the shop ahead of me. Yikes. No word of when they can look at it.

New log entry:
Adaptive Cruise Control flashes 'BRAKE NOW!!!' in red letters and gives me a heart attack when taking my daily drive to work and back.

I 1st noticed this during week one of ownership when cars in Right Lane were stopped and I was driving 70mph in the 'Toll Lane' that was just one lane over on left.

Now it happened again when cars were moving in Right Lane but I was driving about 20 MPH faster in the Left Toll Lane.

These incidents are occurring on 91 freeway in California during daylight hours.

I noticed 'ghost' cars show up sometimes on display but no cara are in front of me.

I also noticed, not during these incidents, that while reading txt messages via voice, that 'lanes' will not show up on the display for cruise control.

My assumption is a cpu is shared on infotainment and is overloaded when there is a car speed didference greater then 20MPH causing adaptive cruise control to break and flash BRAKE NOW and it starts its emergwncy procedures causing a heart attack for me.

The ID.4's Infotainment "application server" (cpu & networked modules, aka ICAS) is independent from the one that runs the vehicle, so there shouldn't be any possibility of the infotainment getting in the way of or otherwise disrupting safety-critical tasks. There may be yet another dedicated to the camera and driver assistance systems, but again, separate from the A/V.

Thanks!

Just want to comfirm, the ID.4 cannot handle 10 cars lined up in right hand lane if you are driving 20 mph faster then those cars. They dont have to be stopped.

What happens is the Cpu appears to overload and cannot proccess the cars in RIGHT HAND lane fast enough and the ID.4 alerts with BRAKE NOW! and I think is about to go into emergency braking procedure.

It is unnerving to say the least! Dangerous yes.

Not sure it’s a CPU issue or anything that complex… it may just be the radar. If you look in the owners manual they explain how it radiates out in a cone and can spot vehicles in other lanes, particularly if the road has a curve to it. I’ve noticed this on my Golf occasionally where it sees trees and mailboxes and thinks they’re in my lane on country roads and beeps at me to warn me of an obstacle.
