Apparently there's no setting to change the default view for nav. When I"m driving, the map is showing a 30 mile radius which I don't want to see. I just want to set it to see like 500ft. I was able to do that with my Jetta. But with the ID4, you have to pinch to zoom over and over to get the distance you want, but then the arrow where your car is disappears after zooming and there's no "centering" button to recenter the car on the map WHILE being zoomed in. There's nothing in "settings" that allows you to choose your zoom and keep it that way.

Yes, tapping on the "Compass Rose" will cycle. But I also find when following directions in the integral Nav it auto-shifts zoom dependent on directed turns, etc. Actually pretty well done.
You should be able to tap on the little circle button with an N inside it, partway up the left edge of the map screen, to cycle through the different view modes. I see 3 modes.

Hmmmm...i saw the circle with the N, but that seems to only change the direction of the arrow or making the screen kinda 3D ish. It does nothing for the zoom. Every time I get in the car and start to drive and press the map, it defaults back to like a 30 mile radius when I had just zoomed in to 500ft radius earlier. There's nothing in the settings to set the zoom distance (i.e. 200ft, 300ft, 500ft, 1000ft, etc). When I had my Jetta, you could set the zoom and the map would stay at that zoom...I had it set to 500ft so i could see maybe 6 to 10 streets in front of me if I needed to take a detour. Showing a 30 mile radius like the ID4 is doing, is pointless since it doesn't show any of the streets except for the freeways or large streets. I have to zoom while I'm driving back to the 500ft distance.

Yes I see that when you do directions, it does auto zoom which is fine, however when you just want to glance at the map to see maybe the next 4 streets in front of you, you can't because the map is showing like a 30 mile wide view of the entire county, so all that's displayed are the freeways and the giant major streets. If you want to cut through the neighborhoods if you need to take a detour, or want to glance at the map to see the next couple of streets coming up, you have to zoom several times while driving to get close enough for the map to display street names. Then when I leave the car and come back, the map resets back to a 30 mile wide radius again. When I had my Jetta, I could set the zoom to a specific zoom (500ft) and it would stay at the zoom permanently unless I changed the zoom to something else.

Yes, I could set my Audi TT SatNav to 300 yards and leave it there as well. Sometimes these systems get too smart. :(

cancel a route? that is embarrassing but how do i cancel a programmed trip? or can i pause it.
on some destinations there is a cross on the right side and tapping that cancels the trip but sometimes there is this blue rectangle like a address letter or sometimes a camera symbol and that one i cannot cancel.
any ideas? i just want the voice to stop

You can use voice to stop navigation... I have no problems with any posts people have experienced.....i guess it will take time for people to learn how to use navigation all of the mentioned issues are not issues but actually set wrong default settings. Only thing i experienced is not finding address when manually typing and finding when using voice to find address......
Hello ID is actually very powerful and it will get even more powerful when people start using it more and start learning how people interact with Voice ID

in general you are right but from the many systems i sued there is always an obvious 'cancel route' button somewhere - not here. so the question is how much are willing people to learn and i would say for no good reason. the system is not much better in the end than others just different to use. remember when MS excel changed to the new GUI. i considered myself a power user and suddenly felt like an idiot.
no need to do that to a user for no good reason.
i agree with you that the voice control works quite well. the funny part is also that the system sometimes takes really long to find something and often starts with similar targets thousands of miles away. weird search algorithm i would say. and it took me a while to see the green circle in the upper right that tells you when the search is actually done because many times i just gave up before it finished doing the job.
also adding a stop over seems not very flexible one has to enter the final target first and then can add the stop over. i have not figured out out to append multiple targets in sequence or just move them easily around as in google maps. again plenty of good example are already out there so why not replicate them?
