With the RAV4 Prime, you get max acceleration in hybrid mode. It’s 5.7 sec compared to 9 sec in EV only mode. I wonder if Outlander is similar.
The motors alone should be able to do 6 seconds 0-60 if they really delivered 332 lbs ft of torque. They don’t. The gas engine works only as a generator until highway speeds when it can drive the front axle directly via a single-gear transmission. But, the electric motors were so underpowered that it felt pretty weak. Even if it didn’t, the suspension is so loose and the brakes are so weak that I wouldn’t buy this PHEV.

In England was best selling hybrid SUV....you can't have it all... efficiency and performance. SUV should not be measured by performance....they are not made for that purpose.
Since you are an expert in cars, I suggest you test drive it. I would be interested in reading your opinion.

I can confirm that Mitsubushi sold a vast number of Outlanders in the UK. And the tech was very interesting. However:

1) That tech is now 10 years out of date.

2) They sold so many primarily because there were HUGE tax advantages for PHEVs in the uk. Not because the Outlander was a particularly good car. When the tax advantages disappeared so did sales and Mitsubushi has now quit the UK market entirely.

I have a Golf PHEV and it is really good, VW also do a Passat with the same drivetrain, I’m sure that’s good too. Does VW sell those in your market?

I will once i get across one of them... but just from reading paper materials it dosent look good....under powered engine....under powered electric motors and it looks like very expensive MSRP for what you getting. In Germany was never accepted well....in England where people have less opportunity for high speeds and they are more focused for efficiency vs anything else. I don't think it will work out in US well.... Americans don't like underpowered vehicles. But from EU time on the market it looks they are designed quite well with not many issues. It may have use for some owners who are not interested in performance. But if you compare this to Toyota Raw4 prime ....Toyota is much better put together hybrid and way more powerful... and 5th hybrid generation from Toyota is designed very well and transfer from EV to ICE engine have been optimized so well that is impossible to feel when they switch back and forth. I do have experience with Raw4 prime and i will judge it by this vehicle once i get the chance to test this hybrid and probably get him on lift to see under what is hidden.
