Probably posted here several times, but for anyone curious to know, 32 amps charges the car at 24 mph, so it's plenty for an overnight charge, no matter how discharged the battery is nor how full you intend to charge it - 11 hours or so should put back 260 miles. Maybe you really don't need any more than that? The wiring for it is MUCH cheaper than for 40 or 48 amp units

I have a sub-panel in the laundry room in the garage with various 120 volt circuits for lights, outlets and the washing machine, a 30 amp 240 volt circuit for the dryer, a 20 amp circuit for a big air compressor and a 40 amp circuit for my wife's ceramic kiln, which only gets fired once ot twice per year, so I piggy-backed another set of #8 cable into that 40 amp breaker and ran it about 25 feet to the desired location, right beside the passenger rear quarter panel of the car. It's also within a couple feet of the garage door, so it will reach a visitors car parked in the driveway too

The EVSE is WiFi capable, has it's own app, set up for timed & delayed charging and adjustable to 10, 12, 16, 24 and 32 amps. It's semi-portable, lifts off it's suppled bracket if you need to take it with you. All for $400

Had to post my install of Chargepoint Flex running at 40amps.

I lucked out and my main panel is direct opposite of this wall on outside.

Now that I have an ID.4 I will hardwire it and swap breaker.

This worked well for my Bolt, but now I can bump it up to 50amp with hardwire and new breaker.

A 10-30 plug limits you to a 30 amp circuit, 80% of which would be a 24 amp EVSE. Anything bigger will use a 14-50 which would limit you to a 40 amp EVSE, if wired with #6 wire. My 32 amp unit uses a 14-50, but with 8 gauge wire for a 40 amp greater. To get to a full 48 amp EVSE, you must hardwire it as there is no plug/socket rated for 60 amps

Yes, you did say 32 amp. But it is selectable so someone could use an adaptor and run it from a 10-30 dryer outlet, selecting 24 amp. I have a JuiceBox running at 40 amp in a 14-50 here in NY but this might be an option for me in Fl running from my 10-30 dryer outlet at 24 amp. Thanks for posting this.

Yes, that would be an option - I think GoPlug even sells pigtails to run it from lesser sockets at lower amps. They even offer a 120 volt pigtail so you can set it for 10 or 12 amps on L1. It is 'semi-portable' so you could carry it with you and use it with a dryer outlet at a friend or relative's house. Very versatile unit and it comes with a 3 year warranty, which pretty much sealed the deal for me

Yes, I just ordered the GoPlug 32 and the $40 kit of all the best sizes ((NEMA 5-15, NEMA 10-30 and NEMA 14-30 to NEMA 14-50 ) so I can use it on road trips easily. I will report how I like it whenever I finally get my car. The similar Tesla UMC cables sell for $35-45 each:

I just got a Wallbox installed at the house the other day.

I had an electrician put in a 14-50 plug and a 50 amp breaker in for about $250. It's worked great so far, but the app is pretty simple and doesn't offer to much.
Wallbox here also and also on a 14-50 plug and 50 amp breaker. Works great.

Here is an advanced feature of the goplug and openEVSE (they are copies of each other) that I like and will be studying further. Solar PV diversion dynamically adjusts the charging rate in real-time based on the excess generated power. More info here:
Another thing I like that I learned today: the goplug is a copy of openEVSE who has sold >20,000 units and it has advanced over the years of open source hardware and software development. This is how they have such an advanced yet simple way to fully monitor and control the unit with just a browser, no app needed, and no internet connection needed. They also have apps that are a simple wrapped headless browser window. Here is a simulated connection (same with goplug or openEVSE) to see the options:

Thanks! I just learned a bunch about my new EVSE (y)

Me and Open EVSE go back a long way - My very first L2 EVSE was one of their units that I built from scratch inside a sealed box meant for photo equipment around 2014 or so. It's still in my garage and has been used to charge a pair of Mitsu iMiEV's every week since then. Nothing fancy and only 16 amps, but it was fun to build and I incorporated an LED in the center of the J-1772 handle connector which made it super easy to find the car socket in the dark - Why don't all EVSE's come with that feature??

Here is more cool and slightly hidden info about your goplug. If paired with your wifi, it shows its IP address on power up like 192.168.4.1. You put that address into any browser, and you can monitor/change any of the settings, no internet connection needed. Or you can go to this webpage and remote control your goplug: (you can also go here without a goplug to see its options, similar to the openevse I linked above)

VW should replace car-net with something this simple yet advanced!
