Hi All - its been 4 days since we have had our ID.4. If this question has been addressed before please indulge me again or point to the resource. I did a brief scan and could not find a similar topic.

Monday - took delivery, dealer claimed vehicle charged to 80%. Estimated mile 281. Drove home (25 miles from dealership) - miles remaining 260
Tuesday - did not use the vehicle much - drove to gym and back - max 10 miles - remaining range 247 miles. Plugged in overnight thinking max charge set to 80%.
Wednesday - woke up to find vehicle charged to 319 mile range on display. The setting was at 100% (although the Car App showed the setting as 80%). Wife took car to work (to & fro about 140 miles). 70 miles onward in the morning cost her around 130 miles range. Return journey of 70 miles cost her exactly 70 miles. Driving habit - between 70 - 85 mph. Charged overnight with limit set to 80% charge on battery.
Thursday - woke up to find car range showing 219 miles. Wife drove 70 miles and remaining mileage dropped to 110. She plugged in while at work and charged to 80% and the status showed 207 miles range. Drove back home and remaining miles was 120. Charged to 80% overnight.
Friday - available range 209 at first look. Opened the door a couple of times and the range dropped to 205. She reached work and remaining miles was 108. Again charged to 80% at work and the max range was 187 miles.

I am a little confused as to why the max range charging 80% each time is showing me different values.

Just taking Thursday and Friday values - charged to 80% 4 times and each time the range has been dropping:

Thursday AM - 219 miles
Thursday PM - 207 miles
Friday AM - 209 miles
Friday PM - 187 miles

I am based in Dallas TX. The 70 miles drive each way is about 60 miles freeway and 10 miles country roads. She drives on D for 60 miles and B for 10 miles each way.

The ID.4 is rated for 250 miles on a full charge. 80% of 250 is 200. One would expect the car to report roughly 200 miles on an 80% charge.

The numbers you gave range from 187-219. The mid-point of these figures is 203.

I'd say the car is matching EPA rating pretty closely. The variation from day to day is due to the different driving speeds and other factors such as temperature, wind or rain etc.

Your wife is fortunate to have workplace charging, the ID.4 is clearly a great match to your daily driving needs. I don't know if there is a fee for workplace charging or not, but if not that's a great deal, half the commute is paid for, which at today's gas prices is a tremendous saving.

The range meter doesn't mean much unless you're driving a consistent speed all the time. When you go on the freeway, the range could drop 50 miles but you only drove 30 miles. Around town at 35 mph, the range could drop 25 miles, but you actually drove 35 miles. Don't keep looking at it and trying to figure out what it's doing - It's trying to 'guess' how far you can go at the speed you're currently driving . . . . and it's never going to be exactly right

I recently had a similar post about this because I thought I had already damaged my battery lol. Nope, the miles shown is an estimate based on how you drive, it will decrease or increase based on how constant the speed you are going is, and how fast. I've found that 70 mph and above combined with hills will drain the battery faster. Once you charge up again, the estimated milage is based on the previous driving.

The EV's display of range remaining is commonly called the "GOM"), which stands for "Guess-O-Meter." Because, it's a guess. You can ask why the car guesses the way it does, and we know it has something to do with how efficiently you're driving and how much charge is left in the battery. But it's just a somewhat educated guess. You shouldn't take it too seriously. Just relax and enjoy the car.

The 70-85 mph will really cut into your range! I have a place I travel to about every other week. I can go by freeway - 75+ mph or go by state highway - 35-55 mph. The two highways parallel each other, so the distance is the same. On the state highway I get 10 to 15% better mileage. Also the mileage is increased when not using the HVAC. Enjoy your ride and don't worry about it.

The work place charging is because it is her own clinic and we installed the 240V charging station for the Tesla we previously owned and continue to use it for the ID.4. But your point is well noted. It does allow us to continue using the EV for our after work day activities as well and do not have to ever take out the other ICE vehicle.

Thank you all for your posts. I come from a Tesla 3 prior experience. Tesla when you charged overnight always showed the same standard mileage. And then the outcome differed based on my driving. Just like a traditional ICE car would show a range on full tank of gas.

If ID.4 has some AI based logic to evaluate based on past driving skills then great. I am all for it. Just want to avoid concerns about any issues with the Meter.

My understanding is that Tesla guess-timates range based on the EPA estimate. Most other EVs try to guess range based on its estimate of the efficiency of your recent driving. These are just two different ways of guessing.

I just drove my wife to the doctor, and after I dropped her off, I did some short errands. When I dropped my wife off, I had a 70% state of charge and the GOM showed 199 miles of range. When I picked her up, I had a 69% state of charge and the GOM showed 213 miles of range. Of course, the range of my ID.4 did not suddenly increase! It's just that my errand-driving efficiency (slower speed) was higher than my drive to the doctor efficiency.

Then again, I've seen the GOM drop by 15 miles just by my sitting down in the driver's seat! Yes, I need to lose some weight, but I don't think the ID.4 knows that. The moral of the story is, don't pay too much attention to the GOM.
