It isn't like they are all that helpful to begin with.
Yesterday, I walked into my VW Dealer's Service Department and stated that “My ID.4 is telling me that it wants to see you for some sort of inspection within 17 days. Can we schedule the necessary appointment?”

The Service Advisor had no idea what I was talking about so I said: “My ID.4 is telling me that it wants me to take it to my VW Dealer for inspection within 17 days down from 18 days yesterday and 19 days the day before that."

“Oh! State Inspection?”.

“No, some sort of routine ID.4-specific inspection.”

Service Advisor calls over other Service Advisor. No progress ensues.

Service Advisor 2 goes and gets ID.4 specialist tech.

Tech says: “Every 10,000 miles, the ID.4 needs to be evaluated.”

“My ID.4 isn't talking about miles, it's talking about days. It's telling me that it wants me to take it to my VW Dealer for inspection within 17 days down from 18 days yesterday and 19 days the day before that."

Tech says: “That's what I said: every so many months, the ID.4 needs to be evaluated.”

So the Service Advisor wrote an appointment for me and they're going to do SOMETHING. I also mentioned that when I drive over sharp bumps, my ID.4 “clanks” and the high-beams seem to flicker. So they wrote that in the appointment too.

But they have no idea when they'll be allowed to update my firmware.

Does anyone think I should have even the slightest bit of confidence that this service appointment will 1) go well or 2) accomplish anything useful besides making me drive the Volt to work that day?

BTW, I believe the timer, like is was in our Audi, is mileage OR days, whichever comes first. In other words the first service is at 10k miles or 1 year since your last inspection.
I believe you're correct. I just liked how his story seamlessly changed. ;-)

Just make sure they don't change the oil and DO add the mandatory blinker fluid. ;)
No kidding! I did ask, specifically, “So this is a FREE service, right?” and was told “Yes”.

Took delivery 14 months ago and while I did get the email my dealer advised on Friday that they don’t even have the equipment necessary to perform the update. We generally love the car but every time my non tech savvy wife calls with “The car is doing xxxx What do I do?” pumping gas doesn’t seem like such a problem to have.
My wife has a simpler strategy: she just won't drive the car, with me or alone.

Huh. My wife give me the stink eye whenever I drive "her" ID.4.
Well, the first time she tried to interact with our ID.4 (right upon bringing it home from the dealer), it gave her the dreaded “Electrical Fault; Service Vehicle Now” error and the car then spent nearly a week in the shop as VW eventually diagnosed the problem to an intermittent fault caused by a software error.

I think this experience left a lasting impression on her as to whether or not our ID.4 was reliable.
