"Before the end of this year, we plan to begin inviting owners of MY ’21 ID.4 vehicles to visit a Volkswagen dealership and receive their first software update."
I'll be very surprised if they actually send the invite. It seems a bad time for the dealerships to get inundated with calls and requests.

Though, strictly speaking, they only said "we plan to" ... they never said they will actually start do it.

It’s not unusual in the world of software/firmware updates to have to apply then sequentially.
Right. For others who are not as familiar with the situation: sequential updates means that update conditions / testing can be restricted to the one sequence. If there are 1 to 10 versions "in the wild", a sequential update means considering "1 to 2", "2 to 3" ,... "10 to 11"; just 10 different updates. But updating "all previous versions" will have meant updating "1 to 2", then "1 to 3 and 2 to 3", then "1 to 4, 2 to 4, 3 to 4" ... up to "1 to 11, 2 to 11, .... 10 to 11". That is unmanageable.
