The first member to post about this VW communication but not surprisingly the first to doubt same. :ROFLMAO: Should be forum renamed 'McThomas.' ;)
What are the odds that they miss this commitment?

What are the odds that they will do this exactly as the letter says, at least 1 owner will be invited to schedule the update but the update will be at a date far into 2023?

What are the chances substantial people are actually in updated 2021 cars before January 1?

... or rather that their dealer would immediately be calling them. ;)

Given some of the MY2022 s/w complaints I'm now not sure I want an update. :ROFLMAO: But a better 12V battery is always welcome.
Hardly surprising. Some people wouldn't have been happy unless the email said to phone the dealer this morning as soon as they open.

Yes, possibly.

I posted in the first thread I saw in the "new" thread view later in the evening, which was not actually this first thread. Thankfully @Spin then took action.
Mods - also, re members posting new threads about the topic: you might want to remember that some forum members might have missed this initial thread about it because they have certain negative and/or toxic users set to "Ignore".

It never ceases to amaze me how little most dealerships know about their products, across most all marques. I'll never understand same. 🤷‍♂️

When a designer with Honeywell we received a steady "yellow flood" of so-colored hardcopy product technical update sheets and were expected to keep on top of all of them. Yet dealerships somehow get by making up whatever they feel like saying to a customer in the moment just to move them along. :(
Well at least some of you got emails about it. I asked my service department about it because I didn’t get the email while in for my 10k service and they tried to tell me that is because only some ID.4s need their software updated. I was like I can’t even begin to explain to you how little you know about this car.

I have none of these issues with my MY21 under v2.1 s/w. I would therefore think you should pursue "buy back", "lemon law", or similar as a software update is unlikely to rectify. It appears you have more serious computer/gateway/sensor/wiring issues.

Caveat: I can't help but add that my patient startup procedure (allowing all to fully boot, etc.) has I believe helped me avoid "gremlins." But again yours seem much more serious.
Hopefully the patience I put in waiting for this update will fix this issue that I randomly saw today with MY21 tonight…along with other random electrical fault, that comes and goes.

-limited travel assist
-front assist is not available
-travel assist is currently not available
-electrical fault. Visit dealer (this one does not allow me to put car into drive until I lock car and reopen again which has happened several times)
-Malfunction in dynamic cornering lighting
-and many others…

If this update doesn’t addressed this issue, will definitely think about bringing up the lemon law to VW Corporate. If my car is not even super old yet and is having all these random sporadic errors, think about what happens once the warranty expires. Anyone else facing these issues or know if this update will fix these issues?

It's only a free subscription and possibly just a placebo. Although I do equate my rolling-computer ID.4 to a PC in this regard. ;)

Back on topic - "all I want for Christmas ..." but I didn't get my adult two front teeth for same either. :ROFLMAO:
And I have never subscribed to Huey’s “patient startup” theory and never had those issues either! I once had errrors due to low 12v battery but they went away as it recharged and never returned, in over a year of ownership. Only other glitches I’ve had have been a few times (3 total) where Apple CarPlay couldn’t find my iPhone - and always resolved on next use. I would take it to the dealer and have them diagnose and replace whatever is bad!

Not for USA MY2021. The latest rumor was end of November but of course that too came and went. 🤷‍♂️

At least we received the subject email from VW a couple months ago for what that's worth.

The update is supposed to include a new/better 12V battery which should help, as yes modern electronics really need a smooth power source.
Getting awfully close to the end of the year and still nothing. Has anyone in the states had this update done yet?
I believe that the vast majority of these errors may be due to low 12v battery voltage... especially if they occur intermittently. I would have your dealer perform a 12v battery test (they have a test they don't like to do because it takes a long time so you may have to cajole them a little)... good luck!

"I cannot have any more as I have not yet had any." -Alice in Wonderland

But I too will keep peering through the looking glass. :ROFLMAO:

Actually they only "plan to invite" ..... by year's end. And as we well know plans can change. 🤷‍♂️

"Before the end of this year, we plan to begin inviting owners of MY ’21 ID.4 vehicles to visit a Volkswagen dealership and receive their first software update. With this dealership visit will come the installation of a new 12-volt battery and some improvements to performance."
IIRC, what the email you all got actually said they would begin to perform the updates before the end of the year. So even one would count. 😉

Exactly my point!! Anyone can plan to do something, but to actually commence and well execute is what really matters.

It does indeed seem like the worst possible time. But all they need to do is postmark one letter by 31 December .... 🤪
I'll be very surprised if they actually send the invite. It seems a bad time for the dealerships to get inundated with calls and requests.

Though, strictly speaking, they only said "we plan to" ... they never said they will actually start do it.
