I would have thought that VW would go in order of purchase data. I wonder how they are choosing the order. Put everyone's VIN in a Bingo style bucket and draw them ? I bought mine in March of 2022 and got the same email.Just got the same email, no appointment date included. I was the first ID4 that my dealer sold, picked up in early April 2021. So I ought to be the first that they update but it is Mississippi.
I have a theory that some dealers are more ready than others.. And if a dealer isn't ready, they aren't releasing the update quite yet. Now from our standpoint, I could pick a different dealer - one that might be more ready, but I don't want to waste my time chasing down that angle if it isn't even relevant.I would have thought that VW would go in order of purchase data. I agree. There also could be variability in some builds that additional time for testing. They may be throttling the number of shops so the VOA dealer support team is not overwhelmed.I have a theory that some dealers are more ready than others.. Does the update show up when you put your VIN into the recall lookup tool or in the my VW app?Just got the email that I was eligible for the update (1st edition, March 2021 delivery). Scheduled the appointment for Dec 13th (San Diego). Dealer said it will take 2 to 3 days. Fingers crossed.
My guy confirmed the same. Unauthorized VIN's will be kicked out of the the service campaign and owners would be on the hook to pay for the service.I was talking to my service advisor anyway and he confirmed they are beginning the updates for the First Edition folks and when VW adds our VIN numbers to the program we should get a reminder to schedule an appointment.
It does show in the myVW app under service campaigns as VW action code 97FYDoes the update show up when you put your VIN into the recall lookup tool or in the my VW app?
I haven’t gotten either email, nor did I ever get the October email. Want to know if my FE is eligible for the update…

How tragically awful for them!I'm guessing this email really says "🛑 STOP BLOWING UP YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENTS PHONE!!! 🛑"
It isn't like they are all that helpful to begin with. How tragically awful for them!
I like to stop by in person and drink their coffee while they scratch their heads and huddle in groups to figure out how to pacify me. In fact I have some time to kill this afternoon. How tragically awful for them!
I got the form letter so I hit reply and reminded them that my ID4 was the first one sold by the only dealer in South Mississippi. Then I remembered that they had an almost identical Pro S that they had in the show room. Maybe that is their beta tester?
At least 6 in spring 2021. I lost count after that. We run into each other every now in then, I know of at least 2 others in my town and it's one of the smaller towns that this dealer covers.Did they sell more than 2???![]()
Yesterday, I walked into my VW Dealer's Service Department and stated that “My ID.4 is telling me that it wants to see you for some sort of inspection within 17 days. Can we schedule the necessary appointment?”It isn't like they are all that helpful to begin with.
Yesterday, I walked into my VW Dealer's Service Department and stated that “My ID.4 is telling me that it wants to see you for some sort of inspection within 17 days. Can we schedule the necessary appointment?”
The Service Advisor had no idea what I was talking about so I said: “My ID.4 is telling me that it wants me to take it to my VW Dealer for inspection within 17 days down from 18 days yesterday and 19 days the day before that."
“Oh! State Inspection?”.
“No, some sort of routine ID.4-specific inspection.”
Service Advisor calls over other Service Advisor. No progress ensues.
Service Advisor 2 goes and gets ID.4 specialist tech.
Tech says: “Every 10,000 miles, the ID.4 needs to be evaluated.”
“My ID.4 isn't talking about miles, it's talking about days. It's telling me that it wants me to take it to my VW Dealer for inspection within 17 days down from 18 days yesterday and 19 days the day before that."
Tech says: “That's what I said: every so many months, the ID.4 needs to be evaluated.”
So the Service Advisor wrote an appointment for me and they're going to do SOMETHING. I also mentioned that when I drive over sharp bumps, my ID.4 “clanks” and the high-beams seem to flicker. So they wrote that in the appointment too.
But they have no idea when they'll be allowed to update my firmware.
Does anyone think I should have even the slightest bit of confidence that this service appointment will 1) go well or 2) accomplish anything useful besides making me drive the Volt to work that day?
