Order experience in Massachusetts

I'm getting vague dealer responses when asking for a quote on a Pro AWD build from VW website. They seem to want to direct me toward their existing inventory that have nothing that I want. Anyone have a smooth experience ordering from dealers in the area?

With the scarcity of inventory not much dealers can do but offering false promises / rough ETAs. So of course they'd rather just sell you what they certainly have on the lot 😁. Unfortunately with the addition of the war issues it could be worse and worse situation, probably they themselves tired of dealing with ID.4 orders.

If you want to "fight" it, I think it is better broaden your angle of attack by dealing with multiple dealers, putting your name on their call list. Some of us needed to drive hundreds of miles (even thousands?) to snatch a cancelled ID.4s. Otherwise the waiting period for an order from VW website could be 6 months to a year long wait. Also keep in mind that cancelled ID.4s may have exorbitant markups as the dealers taking advantage of the high demand.

ddx is right on the mark. A dealer simply can't come up w/ a final price when he doesn't know MSRP.

Given supply vs demand ... just resign yourself to paying MSRP as a starting point.

Assuming that ... you CAN negotiate in good faith as far as what you'll pay in-addition to MSRP. (as many of the "extras" are simply a percentage of MSRP)

These fees are ALL negotiable (despite any claims to the contrary) - and can quickly run into the thousands of dollars.

My own pet peeve is collecting "taxes" far in excess of what the state and local jurisdictions actually collect from the dealership.

Work it ALL out in advance so as to not have any "surprises" when you take possession.
My delivery experience with Coastal VW in Hanover, MA was excellent. It was a year ago on my portal-ordered FE. I had no prior history with them and I selected for delivery simply as my closest dealership.

Wellesley VW is always well rated too. No personal experience with them (well, other than helping construct their building in the 70's ;)).

I bought my Pro S almost a year ago through Wellesley VW. Great experience. I ordered the car in Sept. 2020 and it was delivered in April 2021. They have an EV specialist who kept me informed all along the way. Once the car arrived, I paid the agreed upon price. Low key process. Also, their service department is excellent.

I locked my AWD Pro S blue/black last week after waiting for 7 months. Have Quirk VW as the destination, as my 2019 eGolf lease from them is up in September. They don’t seem to have as high a volume as Wellesley VW, but haven’t had a negative experience yet from them. They’ve stated on the phone that they will not charge above MSRP…not in writing though.

I can highly recommend Minuteman VW in Bedford. They will commit in email to MSRP plus destination, TTL and a doc fee and won’t require add-ons or markup. The whole buying experience was very smooth overall — no pressure, fast, and friendly. They’ve sold a lot of ID.4s so they might be one of the Boston-area dealers that gets good allocations. Plus their service department is superb.

I have leased several vehicles, including my ID.4 from Colonial VW in Westborough. Cal Angus is great to work with. They also have a good service department. Give them a shot if you‘re near Central Mass.
