I decided I was going to remove the front license plate bracket and then install hole plugs to hide the 8mm holes. I live in Arizona, which doesn't require front license plates.

After buying several different sizes and types of plugs, I settled on the best one that I could find, and painted it to match the car.

I haven't a clue how prevalent the issue really is, or at what process VW decides to install the front plate bracket, but if you have the same issue, you can buy a set of 5 at the link below if you don't want to go through the hassle of finding & painting plugs yourself. I learned painting plugs by hand is a bit of a nightmare, spray paint is the way to go.

Looks good. But I hope I won't need to do this. I've asked my dealer to not let the techs install the front tag bracket should it come without one.
That's nice, and hopefully it works. However my dealer assured me that my FE arrived sporting the front bracket. BTW I have a hard time calling the front plastic fixture a "tag bracket" since it in no way provides holes that align to accommodate a front plate.

I bought these and the look terrific. They are smaller than the Bumper Plugs and do not require any drilling. I could not be happier (only if my FE didn’t come with the bracket pre installed). I highly recommend them.

Got it done. Push in center pin. Looks great. I always thought popcorn had the highest profit margin, but these may beat it 😉. Nevertheless very happy with my purchase.
