Did they say if you get a 2022 model now that dates are pushed back will we still get free charging incentive?
Time for an update. |
Hi XXXXXXX, |
We're doing everything we can to get you an ID.4 AWD Pro as soon as possible. We're reaching out today to let you know that interest in the vehicle has been greater than expected, and Volkswagen's production volume has been adversely affected by the worldwide microchip shortage and impact of COVID-19. As a result, based on when you made your reservation, we're estimating that you will receive your ID.4 AWD Pro next year. |
We realize this may be unexpected, but we'd like to inform you of some options:
|
If you decide to speed up the arrival of your new ID.4, we'll follow up as soon as possible to ask you to lock in your order with a $400 deposit; at that time, you will receive a new time window for your ID.4's expedited arrival. |
To help determine which option is right for you, please log in to my ID.4 Reservation where you can change your reservation to a new trim and view estimated costs. |
Whatever trim level you choose, we know you're going to love the ID.4 - and to thank you for your patience, you'll receive a small gift after you purchase your ID.4, along with a $200 credit to use toward service, parts or accessories at your preferred VW Dealer. |
From what he stated, he reserved in March. For those of us that reserved a non-Gradient AWD this spring (I reserved in April), we have not ever been contacted to "lock" the order. If you notice, the email even states, "we'll follow up as soon as possible to ask you to lock in your order with a $400 deposit," indicating that his order has not locked (or he would have already paid the $400 and would not need to re-pay it).@mih721,
When did you lock your order? I locked mine on August 29th but went from the Pro AWD to the Pro S AWD with Gradient package.
For reference I did not get this email and when I spoke to VW around a week ago they said I couldn’t change the exterior color because my order was already on their production schedule.
It is also funny how the first forum member in the US to get AWD was a Pro and not a Pro S.
Somebody reminded me in another thread that VW hinted at V2L in 2022 (vehicle to load -- power a kegerator at the tailgate party). I'm pretty confident they're adding / changing something hardware related, otherwise they wouldn't need to delay the model year start....There could be some advantages to a 2022, in particular if they have hardware "fixes"/upgrades that improve range and reliability over the 2021 model....
No, you may get a 20221 model (whatever that is?) according to the above email:Did they say if you get a 2022 model now that dates are pushed back
If you're OK to wait, you don't need to do anything. We will be in touch in January 2022 to give you a more specific delivery time frame. If you choose this route, you may end up with a Model Year 20221 vehicle
Agreed. By switching customers to RWD then fewer drive motor components are necessary. Maybe the front motor is in short supply or controllers are in short supply. This delay smells like a component shortage, but I can't fathom an AWD-specific part not in the Pro-S, nor a Pro-specific part not also in the RWD version (i.e. the 10" screen). What is causing the AWD Pro to be the only one delayed?
The 1 at the end was a superscript for the fine print:No, you may get a 20221 model (whatever that is?) according to the above email:
We'll see if I get a similar email, but the fact that my order has never "locked" makes it appear that I'm in the same boat -- and I ordered a Pro S, not a Pro. I tend to agree with @JohnnyForElectric, that it is a profitability issue. They can sell the Gradient versions for $1500 more, simply by changing the paint scheme a bit (some silver paint) and swapping out the 19" tires and wheels for 20". I suppose it could be an issue with availability of 19" wheels, but that seems doubtful, to me.Somebody reminded me in another thread that VW hinted at V2L in 2022 (vehicle to load -- power a kegerator at the tailgate party). So somebody tell me, what is something special the AWD Pro has that all of the other ID.4s don't? This delay smells like a component shortage, but I can't fathom an AWD-specific part not in the Pro-S, nor a Pro-specific part not also in the RWD version (i.e. the 10" screen). They aren't trying to switch people to RWD, they are trying to "upsell" to the Gradient package (and, in the OPs case the Statement package). We've seen it on this forum -- I remember one person made his reservation maybe a week before me and, to test to see if VW was prioritizing the Gradient package, he made a new reservation (maybe a month ago) that included the Gradient. His new reservation locked within a week, but there was still no movement on his old reservation (which I believe was a Pro S, no gradient).Agreed. By switching customers to RWD then fewer drive motor components are necessary. Maybe the front motor is in short supply or controllers are in short supply.
Yup - Remember something like 46% of this car comes from China and there are delays sourcing most everything from thereAgreed. By switching customers to RWD then fewer drive motor components are necessary. Maybe the front motor is in short supply or controllers are in short supply.
If you go to the "Build & Reserve" page on VW.com today, it says RWD available "Starting Summer 2021" (although that seems to need updating since it's now mid-September), AWD Pro "Starting Feb 2022" and AWD Pro S "Starting Oct 2021". So, for whatever reason the RWD are available now, but among the AWD models they are definitely prioritizing the higher trim levels. (To be fair, that's what other companies do as well.)They aren't trying to switch people to RWD, they are trying to "upsell" to the Gradient package (and, in the OPs case the Statement package).
Any update on what a 20221 model is? Lol.I didn't see this posted yet so I thought I would. I received this email today regarding my Pro AWD reserved in March:

Just hard to understand. I ordered the AWD Pro S with Gradient in January. All locked in but still at stage 2 (15-1) and waiting with a posted delivery date of Sep-Oct. I've not heard a word from VW or my dealer, and doubt I'll see these vehicle in Nov at this rate. Not sure why they would place Gradient ahead in the order process.I didn't see this posted yet so I thought I would. I received this email today regarding my Pro AWD reserved in March:
