So I just went to pickup my pro S after waiting months, its travel assist had an error on the dashboard and said it was unavailable. The car was also showing temp units in Celsius for some reason.

the dealer is looking at it, but say they can't do anything untill VW tells them what they want them to do based on diagnostics. This really seems like a bad way to start a new car, having problems before I even sign the paperwork. I like the car, but am wondering if I should walk away.

Stay with it. Software is easy to fix. It was probably a module that wasn't successfully installed and is a quick fix. That was my experience with my navigation system.

I'm actually in a similar situation, especially as I wasn't expecting the car until July (per the ID.4 website). I am concerned that, although it seems like a great car, the dealers are not yet ready for some of the albeit small issues that will likely arise. I don't need another car right now, and certainly don't need the frustrations. In fact, I think I know more about some of the features on the car (from the research I've done) than the salesperson and manager I've talked to so far. I am really tempted to wait a few months until they can get some of this sorted out.

Yep. We just picked up our FE today and it was set to C for temp. Easy fix in the settings. Also our "miles left" gauge was giving a crazy number (like 380 miles) because the car had only been driven 9 miles prior. It settled down after we drove it home.

The cars are delivered in miles but also in Celsius which is weird but the dealers should have a trained member to set everything up. Where I bought mine the guy was excellent at making sure it was ready even though it was only on the lot for 9 hours. I test drove at a different deal a couple weeks ago and the assists had errors and the temp was Celsius which I figured out and showed him.

I wouldn't worry about (yet) you can see most post about the error with the dynamic corning lights that popped up every time I entered the car. Dealer was very straightforward with me that they're told to report every issue to VW HQ and work with them to resolve it. Fingers crossed but after a software reflash looks like my issue has been resolved.

I can see why this feels wrong when you are about to pick up the car. But the two issues you mention are minor. Based on what we have all shared here, none of them is getting in the way of driving the car safely and having some fun while driving. My ID.4 has had software glitches a few times but drives like a dream every time. The glitches have not prevented us from driving so far, just annoyed us a little. So stick with it.
