Illuminated Billboard?

But seriously, that was the whole point of the 1st. Give $2,000 in exchange for pre-orders for a brand new vehicle. Build a little buzz.

So Specs are the same ...

Wonder if it's because of the White Steering wheel and Accents? If people still think the White (1rst Edition) will look like crap before long? Maybe thats why they are a few thousand less?

Anyway .. after 2 test drives I still like the white best.. I absolutely hate the piano black ..shows every speck of dust (I have it in my Chevy Bolt)
We're still under an NDA in beta. :censored:

No, vw did not make the msrp less because they thought they had an inferior interior. Nai3t already correctly answered your question. Sounds like you should find a first edition though!

I think you're missing the Point... these are essential the exact same vehicle spec wise ...with the exception that the 1rst edition has the While wrapped Steering and Accents.. otherwise exact same specs

So Why are they charging 2k more for the Pro S ?

Yep, looks like going for 1rst edition.
I guess putting a reservation down September 2020 gets a discount?

Does Pro S have the receiver hitch standard? I always forget.

Nai3t answered the question already. This was a brand new model in an area that VW has decided is their future - EVs. People were being asked to pre-order a car up to six or eight months prior to their receiving it. So, to get orders, and build "buzz", they offered a unique "first edition" (with the white steering wheel and screen cases) and a unique combination of a few features (20" wheels and a tow bar) plus a discounted price. This was the reward early adopters would receive -- a slightly different car from what all those who follow would get.

They're not. They charged $2,000 less for the 1st.

It's the effect of the line around the block of people waiting to see a movie. If somebody doesn't know what they want to watch, and the see that line, well, it must be a good movie!

VW wanted to sell out pre-orders to build the kind of hype that advertising can't buy. The way to do that is launch it at a modest discount, offer only a limited supply, and add in some exclusive features. I think the plan worked.

I believe the PRO S also has the lighted VW badge in the front. The 1st edition does not have this.

That's correct. It's $2K more in the Pro S for the lighted VW badge. :ROFLMAO:

When I was '2nd chance' offered an FE reservation in early January that effective $2K in "free" options was one of the positive tipping points for me, as I expect many others.
We early adopters, and thereby s/w beta testers, deserve "a little sumthin, yunno for the effort." ;)

The FE also came with the hitch receiver - that's the main substantive difference.

I guess it's too early in the morning for tongue in cheek sarcastic humor. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, the hitch receiver and a number of other items. ChristophW had a nice comparative list way back when and as his accompanying financial logic was as usual flawless it was one of my primary FE decision points. That and much earlier adoption of course. ;)

Here is a great video from out of spec explaining the difference.

He doesn't mention the hitch. Does the Pro S Gradient have a hitch or not?

Nope, nor is it even available as an upgrade yet. Could be a future upgrade according to my dealer's part guy.

I'm curious to see what the prices on these FE look like when they come up used. I think the FE was an excellent value for the money.
