I've had a reservation for an AWD ID4 since March 2022..converted to a 2023 AWD Pro S Plus (Tourmaline blue/cosmic) last fall. System said delivery Dec-Feb, now March-May. :( Just got this message from the dealer:

"there is an indefinite hold on those productions because of the software on the ariel 360 camera"

Does anyone have any insight into this? I'm trying to figure out next steps. I really wanted the 360 camera and headed rear seats, but if I have to wait another 6 months, I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

I waited six months for a Plus model and figured that was long enough. I purchased a AWD Pro S last month and really like it. My 2020 Rav4 Limited Hybrid, which I traded for the ID.4, had the 360 camera and heated rear seats. Never used the heated rear seats and hardly ever used the camera. We qualify for the full $7500 tax credit and did not want to miss out on that. Between the extra cost for the Plus model, additional sales tax, and loss of the tax credit (assuming the ID.4 does not qualify for the full credit once the battery rules are in place), I would be leaving 10K plus on the table. If the ID.4 qualifies for only half of the credit, I would be leaving 7K on the table. I was not willing to take that chance. I could buy a lot of home charging for 7 or 10K.

We haven't heard from our dealer, but I know we went from 15-1 status to 03 yesterday, and according to the portal, this happened with many of the Pro S Plus AWD. I was hoping it was just a glitch because the same thing happened on 2/28, but then it was corrected on 3/1. I've been holding off getting the brake pads and rotors replaced in my 2009 vehicle, thinking it won't be long before we get our vehicle, but I guess I shouldn't wait any more. :(

I wonder if has anything to do with this issue posted on the forum.

Hmm, Europe here, and it seems that Swarm Data and Park Assist+ with Memory Function are causing delays.

Haven't heard that 360' cameras specifically would be an issue.. and my car currently in transit has them.

The 360' cameras were said to be an issue about 6 months ago or so, as they're not specific to VAG EVs, but never heard of the software being an issue. Why would it be - it has existed and been available in ID.x cars for almost a year now.

See this post from a couple weeks ago about a Plus that is having issues with 360 camera: Error: Surrounding area view on 2023 Pro S Plus AWD

Is there anyone on here who works at the factory? I saw a post from @plantpeon but I don't know how to message them directly--I'm a newbie on this site! :)

@VW TECHNICIAN have you heard anything about an issue with the 360 camera delaying the Pro S Plus production and release?

I chatted with VW customer support and they aren't able to provide much detail. Here is the answer I received when I asked if there was a hold on Pro S Plus AWD production:

VW: Thank you for baring with me! I show your reservation is confirmed with an ETA for delivery of Mar 2023 - May 2023. Please be aware this is an estimated time frame and is subject to change. Production is not being placed on hold. This is all the information we have at this time. Is there anything else I can do for you?

ME: So you are not aware of the production being delayed at all for these vehicles, correct?5:24 PM

VW: There are many current shortages in materials and labor and delays in shipping at borders for a variety of reasons right now which will delay delivery many times. However, production is not being placed on hold at this time.

Just received this reply from my dealer, but to date, they have not received a whole lot of communication from VW corporate.

There is a recall but only on certain 2022 models. Yours is a 2023 model so yours will not be impacted by the camera recall. From our portal it says that yours is ready for assembly and a May eta.

So my turn to chime in here.

I too have an AWD Pro S Plus that was ordered on July 21. Went to 15-1 in late February and has since flipped back to Locked and then back to 15-1 twice... it is again at Locked and the commission number disappeared. I have a case opened with VW Customer Care to see what is going on.

I stopped by my dealer today and they looked up the commission number (I had a screenshot from back in January from the plug in) and it shows a different model (AWD Pro S) going to a dealer in Pennsylvania. My dealer is in New Jersey.

I'm going to reply to the email VW sent me with the case number with this new information.

That Aerial Camera view is pretty important to me. I park in Manhattan a couple times a week (weekends) and it is an art shoehorning a car into some spaces via parallel parking. The overhead view has made that so much easier. I could care less about heated rear seats.

What also bugs me is my 2020 Tiguan has the aerial view feature. I understand it is two different cars, but the coding has to be incredibly similar. Can't understand why they'd be having a problem with it.

Yes, the delay is real. Per a conversation with a dealer yesterday, as well as chatting with VW Customer Care, all of us waiting for a Plus are supposed to get an email within the next week that will say the delay is due to a problem with equipment specifically in the Plus trim and that we will have the option to switch our reservation to the same configuration in the Pro S line and keep our place in the reservation system, in order to get a car faster. I've heard the new ETA for the Plus will just be the second half of 2023, with no more specificity than that.

I had a similar conversation with my dealer. I've lost faith in VW's ability to make software. I'm sure they'll get it eventually, but after test driving a Tesla and VW again, we've gone with the Model Y. The Tesla communication has been great and the car should be in our hands by May. I'm keeping the VW reservation just out of a morbid sense of curiosity.

The-software-is-just-fine.jeesus.

I'm sure there's an issue with the camera availability, as the same 360' cameras go into about all cars anyway.

But no, it's not the software. Picking up mine in about four weeks, with a 360' camera.

Edit: to be clear, I am in Europe and I'm getting mine from Zwickau. Ordered over a year ago, and car is currently in Travemunden port waiting to ship.

I was informed last summer that there is a shortage of 360' cameras as those are not specific to ID.x cars and that - in addition to powered seats, matrix lights and a few others - is a cause for the delay.

As they were shipping cars with 360' cams through 2022 and continue to ship them now - mine was built in February - it is not possible that it's a "software issue". If it was, then it would affect globally.

I can believe it's an availability issue. But it's not software, it's hardware, or maybe, just maybe, the US 360' are sourced from another company and their variant doesn't play nice with the software. Maybe.

But it 100 % isn't a software issue only causing the delay, as the delay only applies to US.

If you consider the timing of the delay to start with the MY23 cars shipping, I would agree with you. Tennessee didn’t start building the Plus models until 2023 because they had missing parts (I believe it was the side mirrors, in addition to the cameras). But my understanding (which may well be wrong) is that they started building the Pluses, shipped a tiny number of them, then realized they had a problem with the software for the camera, and literally started pulling cars off rails. I was told they have completed Plus cars sitting at the factory that they can’t ship out because of the software.

Of course, I have no insider knowledge, and the dealer who told me this could also be wrong or just making it up.

And why does this "software issue" affect US built cars only, as German-manufactured cars ship just fine with 360' cameras?
