I've given up on my Tourmaline Pro S Plus AWD (ordered on August 11, locked on October 18). Dealer says it's showing Dec 24-Jan 17 but there's no way it's making it this year. There's not even a VIN yet and it would have to get from Chattanooga to Boston in the next two weeks (with holidays and such). So now we're calling all the local VW dealers to see if any of them have abandoned MY23 AWD Pro S's. If we can find one before the end of the year, we'll likely buy it. I'd be fine with getting it in January or February next year and I like the Pro S Plus at $2700 more than the Pro S, but not $6500 or, even worse, $10200 more.

I'm sure many of you are in the same boat at this point.
Yep, I was in the same boat, but with a RWD Arctic Blue Pro S Plus. It's at "05", no VIN, no progress, wheel shows January to June 2023.

I ended up putting a deposit down to hold a cancelled Red AWD Pro S order while it is in transit to the dealer. Fingers crossed it comes on time (next week).

I am officially done waiting for the AWD Pro S Plus as I recently was able to find a cancelled AWD Pro S at MSRP with no add-on! Good luck to those who are still waiting. There may be a few number of you who live close to TN would get a post-Christmas surprise, assuming the IRS doesn't release the new requirements until the very last possible day of 2022.

I am holding out for my + order. There is nothing preventing the relaxation of the current rules and allowing my car to qualify for the full credit being put in service in 2023.

I would like to hold out hope for that as well but there is literally nothing in the legislation that allows for a relaxation of the rules (this was almost certainly by Manchin's design). Pretty sure Congress would have to act to amend the rules and that's certainly not going to be done before the end of this term and I can't imagine it would happen next term. But stranger things have happened! Maybe they'll add an amendment to the omnibus spending bill next week.

Its not in the current bill but in the newly introduced bill .

"If passed, the bill, filed Nov. 4, would delay the core stipulations for the $7,500 EV tax credit by three years, until Dec. 31, 2025. It would have the effect of making virtually all EVs eligible for the credit once more, not just those that meet the requirements of IRA."

Then like you said the chances of getting this bill through are slim in the next term.

Yes, I'm aware of H.R. 9289 and S. 5020 (introduced by Sen. Warnock of GA) but all that's happened with those is that they've been referred to their various committees. They haven't even come up for committee debate that I'm aware of. There's literally not enough time for them to get out of committee and then come to a floor vote before this session of Congress ends on Jan 3. Then they'd have to be reintroduced and if you think a GOP controlled Ways and Means committee in the House is going to pass it...just say I'd be genuinely shocked if that happened. Happy! But very shocked.

The one thing that I think makes it more likely Congress might do SOMETHING is that I suspect no car is going to be eligible for the full $7500 come Jan 1 and many won't even be eligible for $3750. Again, this would be by design but I don't think people are fully aware of the risk.

I think it was by design (by Manchin) that significantly fewer EVs will qualify for the tax credit. He wanted the number that qualify to be zero. He compromised to allow what is in the IRA.

Unfortunately, the way things are in the Senate this term, Manchin is in a very powerful position to get his way.

Honestly, the best chance is they tack it on as an amendment to the omnibus spending bill due this week but I just don't see it happening. We'll know by Dec 23 either way.

Why would he want that though? EVs could keep VW's coal powered afloat.

What Congress really need to figure out is how to prevent price gauging by dealers. One of the edges of Tesla had been that you didn't have to deal with individual dealers trying to pocket the tax incentives (Elon did instead, LOL).

Toyota also has a big ICE factory in WV and they're coming late to the full EV game. Anything to slow down the competition.

Or the treasury department does just ask for an extension to March (which I didn't think they could do). That makes it easier.
Yup just saw that in a news article. Plus better moves off the assembly lines from January!

For those that haven't seen any articles about this:

Now it just means getting the credit for FY2023 instead of FY2022. For those of us still holding on to hopes of an AWD or RWD + with a tax credit ...
