Proximity sensor continues to beep

Has anyone experienced the proximity sensor continuing to chime after reversing out of a parking space or garage? This has occurred on two separate occasions for me.
1) Put car in reverse
2) Proximity sensor beeps
3) Cleared obstacle - continues to beep
4) Driving - continues to beep
5) Parked vehicle and locked doors - continues to beep
6) Started driving again after a few minutes of waiting - continues to beep
(anyone see a pattern yet?)
7) Returned home - continues to beep
8) Parked car, locked doors, plugged in - continues to beep

Stopped after nearly 10 minutes of being plugged in. Thoughts, advice?

Hmmm, that's problematic. There's always the 'reboot': get out of the car, lock car, get back in and restart. But this is understandably frustrating.

You've reminded me of another odd behavior (but one that is more likely intended): after I back out of a space, shift into drive, and roll forward, the rear camera operates for ~10 seconds. I find this somewhat distracting. I'd love a front facing camera when I'm trying to navigate tight parking, but a rear-facing camera while moving forward is just odd.

Unless, you are parallel parking and going between forward and reverse? Just a thought about why you may not want the camera to turn off immediately. What do I know?

Yeah, my Bolt and Alltrack both did that too, and it makes sense to me. I do think it should be an option though.

The camera can be turned off with a button on the Park Assist screen. But which distraction is worse? Having to look at the screen for the button, or putting up with the rear view display when you are moving forward?
Per the Owner’s Manual on p167, “Switching the Rear View Camera system on and off” - the camera will switch off “When the vehicle drives forward at more than 9 mpg (15 km/h)”

Presumably so the driver can do those back and forth motions mentioned above.

Every single car I've driven with a rear view camera has worked like this.

I've never had a vehicle with a rear view camera, just never felt the need for such a feature. I generally park using mirrors alone. My wife's Explorer has one though and it switches the screen on and off right along with switching gears.
Yes, but Germanic vehicles all do this: “...When the vehicle drives forward at more than 9 mpg (15 km/h)...”

Might just be inexperience: Mini has radar only, and Honda does not behave this way. Thanks for all of the feedback!
My Ford Fusion also has a backup camera that stays on for a while after driving forward, until either a certain speed is reached or time elapsed (whichever is first). There is a setting to make it change with the gears as well, but I just keep it default. It doesn't bother me.
Mine did this once. Restarting infotainment (holding power button down for ~10 seconds) fixed the beeping.

I will try this for a fix. 2,000 miles on the odometer and the incident has occurred three separate times. The dealer is aware and willing to help, but they could not replicate the problem when I had it in for a look. I'll keep everyone posted if it occurs again... and if Robin's solution solves the problem.

I had the exact problem. No reboot of the car, using the power button on/off, or anything like driving, getting out, locking the car, getting back in helps. This is also not a discussion about the rear camera, its a sensor fault. After some time in the garage, not even plugged in, it stopped. While it was beeping and I was driving, I couldn't even hear the phone, since that is going to speaker phone when you're in the car.

I had another sensor problem for the lane assist. That's also annoying, since the automatic speed control is also not working when this happens.

I think, the ID4 definitely has sensor electrical problems (shorts?, getting stuck). Any support for this from the experts would be appreciated. I will bring my ID4 back to the dealer service to see what they know and cna do.

Do you mean the power button on the steering wheel?

No, the infotainment power button, at the bottom left corner below the infotainment screen.

Ok. Got it. I will try this, when this happens again. As it was, the sensor set it self right after about 2 hrs in the garage when the beeping stopped. Since then, it hasn't happened again. Thanks for the tip though.

This happened to me today. The vehicle beeped for over an hour. Tried all the things nothing worked. I called my dealership and they suggested I hold the volume down button for 10 to 15 seconds to restart the screen. It didn’t work. They also told me to plug it in to see if that stopped it but I wasn’t near my charger so it just beeped in the parking lot until it didn’t.

You need to hold down the power button just to the left of the volume slider, not the volume down button, in order to restart the infotainment screen; your dealer gave you incorrect info.

That makes more sense. Lol. I asked to be sure it was the volume down and they confirmed. Thanks for letting me know.
