Hello all, I purchase a VW ID.4 Pro S back in May and purchase Electrify Home Level 2 Charger. Electrify Home and Qmerit has some type of partnership setup, because as soon as I ordered my charger I got an email from Qmerit. I was wondering if anybody else has used Qmerit? The reason that I am asking is Qmerit came across that they would have several certified electricians with EV Charger knowledge contact you with bids, but in my case I only got one bid. So in my case I did not get the choice of being able to pick from maybe a lower bidding company. This is not a fair practice to the consumer. Also they lead one to believe that it is best to hire a certified electrician with EV Charger knowledge, which I am learning it is not true, as any certified electrician would be able to do the same thing, which mean that you would be able to get bids from two or three companies. So chime in with any thoughts or input.

There may be some EV specific shutoff and labeling requirements based on location, mounting height limitations, and basic max current vs. circuit amperage stuff, but honestly, having done 220 for air compressors, ovens, dryers, and water heaters, the EVSE isn't any more code-intensive than the others, just perhaps less familiar to many electricians.

If you're versed in the finer points and can be a second set of eyes, and especially if the installation will be inspected by your municipality, I wouldn't be shy about hiring any reputable electrician. The wires-start-here-and-end-there part of it is about as straight forward as it gets.

I really appreciate the installation guide my local utility put together. Pretty much covers all the bases.

It is probably best to get several estimates because they will likely vary widely. Any licensed electrician will be able to do the installation. Good luck!

Yes I agree. That is what stated in my post and my whole issue is Qmerit as I wrote in my post. They told me that they would provide me with multiple bids but did not.

Sorry for adding to an old post. I just had a negative qmerit experience as well. I was sent a quote by qmerit from a local electrician who came and put in an estimate. Qmerit was listing the price as $400 higher than the attached quote from the electrician. When I called qmerit they said they would look into it. Believe it or not, they told the electrician to redo his quote and submit one that matched what qmerit had represented as the price. No way am I paying $400 more in this fashion.

Avoid Qmerit

the “certified installer” they sent to me didn’t pull the required permits prior to arriving to install (despite the $300 permit charge on the quote) - turned out he didn’t even have a business license in my county!

Any electrician worth their salt does not need leads from Qmerit and will not be willing to pay a fee to respond to bid requests.
I agree. I purchased the Electrify Home level 2 charger that was on the VW.com website after having no luck with a less expensive L2 charger. Although a bit pricey, it has proven to be an excellent charging station and I have had zero problems with it. I paid my local electrician that I have used on many other projects a very reasonable fee to have the 50 amp outlet installed and all in all I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend the Electrify Home L2 for ID.4 owners.
