Okay... watched the knowyourvw videos and checked the manual for the rear trunk auto-handsfree opening... moving my leg around and all. It's not working for me.... which is a norm btw. So I'm wondering what's the R-E-A-L trick here? Anyone else care? Sure would be nice for loading and unloading.

Glad to know elsewhere here how to set the height so I don't find the airport garage is my rear trunk's new "friend"... NOT! by pressing the close button at the desired height. Will test this later. Thanks!

And if you have a trailer hitch - move to the left side of the hitch. That’s what worked best for me. I have since removed the hitch and it works much better and flawlessly.

Yep, I've had much better accuracy just doing a quick kick just to the left of the hitch on mine as well. It's interesting though, it seems like there is variance, because I'm pretty sure I've seen some others say theirs works much better on the right side, but for me it almost never works on the right side.

Thanks guys, but as it turns out, my problem was in the VEHICLE menu setting. Needed to turn on Easy Access... looks like the top of a submenu but without anything below it. It's GREEN if it's on, and regular if off. Weird. But it works now very dependably EXCEPT it doesn't work very well for closing. Oh well. Easy enough to just reach up and do that.

for closing, you need to step back after kicking.

I had difficulty at first, but then I realized I was always trying in my garage with the door shut and could not move back far enough for to sense I was not in the way of the hatch opening. With the car moved forward in my garage or the garage door open it works every time. I just move my foot right up under the hitch and step back and it works every time.

I took a peek under the rear bumper looking for the kick sensor. I found this to the right of the receiver hitch and snapped a pic so I could read it, but just to the right out of frame is what looks like a sensor. Or, at least, the closest thing to a sensor that is anywhere in that area. But maybe it's the trailer wiring harness. I dunno. ¯\(ツ)

I am not sure why there would be this hitch label attached to it. I was parked too close in front of another car to play with it.

Yeah. The thing to the right is where the trailer wiring plug goes. I just installed mine last weekend.

So where is the sensor? I can get on the ground and chop my hand on that general area and cause the lift gate to operate. But I'm not seeing anything else resembling a sensor.
It's up, above/behind the hitch. The hitch basically covers the sensor. This has always been an issue with VW and their auto lift feature and hitches. They could just move it over a few inches but never have as far as I know.

I have a slightly different problem. Whether I use the foot waggle or press on the lift handle, the hatch starts to unlatch, fails, and relatches. If I press on the lift handle firmly enough to start opening the hatch, it works. If I use the button on the drivers side door, same problem, starts to unlatch, fails, then relatches. Not every time, maybe 1/3 of the time. Anyone else had this problem?

Before visiting dealer always try 12v battery disconnect and rest all systems. Nothing to lose as you will be visiting dealer anyway.

This reminds me of an experience I sometimes have with the closing button. When I am not deliberate or fast enough, the closing button registers a double push and the hatch stays open. Does your opening mechanism maybe have a faulty connection with possible double triggering? Try also to push the manual button only once and keep it short.

Thanks for suggestion, but I've tried that to no avail.
