I want to do this modification because of the stripped license plate holes in my bumper that no longer hold my plate. What was VW thinking when they allowed dealers to just screw into the bumper. I have found 2 options to correct this VW shortcoming/error. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? I like the lightspeed option the most but the price and the way its mounted prevents me from buying. I can't tell if its using the 2 torx bolts in the recessed area in the bumper to mount its bracket. Volkswagen ID.4 Rear License Plate Bracket Kit | Etsy 2021 iD.4 Rear License Plate Bracket

I have Etsy and it is much lower than what your bracket is. But more choice are good.
If you can post pictures of the back side bracket it would be nice.
I purchased and installed this license plate bracket kit id-4-rear-license-plate-bracket from Legit Speed Designs(I have no affiliation with this company) for my Pro S. It was quite a bit more expensive than the kit available on Etsy but it seems to have more material and is nice and sturdy once it is installed.

One downside of the Etsy bracket is that it pushes the plate out a little further, and if you have a light colored reflective plate like we do in NJ, the glare from the plate makes the backup camera darker than it should be at night…

It’s a known problem with backup camera irregardless of bracket or no bracket. Search for backup light hood on these forums, 2 products on Etsy including the person who makes the bracket I bought. The bracket has to be that way because of the angle of the bumper plastic. It’s just inexcusable for a $40K+ vehicle to not have a license plate mounting bracket. Never had to screw into bumper on any vehicle I have owned. VW needs to ship a bracket or redesign bumper, it’s sucks! Plate and parking sensors are mounted to low.

Yeah, I saw those… and not sure if plate and parking sensors are too low, or the backup camera is too low. In my Golf, it‘s behind the VW logo (like a Mercedes) where it stays clean until needed… guess moving it down was a cost cutting move.

At least some of the ID.3s also have a hidden backup camera in the logo.

Regarding the bracket, I'm sure there was a team at VW thinking they had come up with a flexible system where where you could mount any shape of plate in any world market without needing a bracket. All you need to do is drill holes in the facia. What could go wrong with that idea?

After testing in the dark last night, I broke down and ordered YuriK's hood for the backup camera (and splurged on his felt lined tray for under the center console)...

How well does the Etsy mount work in conjunction with YuriK’s hood?
The issue with light from the license plate getting into the backup camera is only increased by any of the drill-less license plate brackets. It is actually easy to see the issue directly if you put the backup camera display into wide angle mode while sitting in the car as you can see a good portion the license plate in the image. Any of the drill-less brackets will offset the plate away from the car and possibly downward also causing the bright plate to be even more pronounced introducing even more nighttime exposure problems for the camera.

If you want maximum protection from stray light with or without one of the drill-less plate brackets, get the original camera hood:

Not only does it block as much of the plate as possible without blocking the view of the ground, it also blocks as much of the light coming from the upper sides where the LED illumination lights are. That especially becomes an issue in the rain when there are water droplets on the surface of the camera which bulge out just enough to refract even a bit more stray light just due to the height of the droplets. Maybe @Pfrancis24 can speak to his experience--I believe he has one of the brackets along with my original camera hood.

@Brett the Etsy bracket works fine with @mochalatte hood. The hood just covers the plate on the bottom of the viewable area which probably helps a bit more with the brightness. As to the Yuri hood, I can’t say as I don’t own that one. I don’t have any regrets buying/using the one I have, makes the camera actually functional at night.

The YuriK hood doesn’t obscure the plate, but still helps a lot with brightness. If you ever plan to use your trailer hitch, that means it also won’t obscure your view of the tow ball.

Any pictures for how it's mounted. I just accidentally stripped one hole. Now it's just holding onto the other hole.
